There are so many small business owners that are insanely talented at what they do, but struggle marketing it online. We see and hear thousands of advertisements every day, this makes it overwhelming trying to stand out. Marketing is that topic for me. I absolutely love meeting small business owners, hearing about what they offer, how they run their business, and strategizing ways to help them grow. Do you have a clunky or outdated website? First I felt empowered and proud of myself… then I kept reading and felt called out. In the best of ways though. Getting back into reading personal development books and it’s so enlightening.

This is a snippet from “Buy Back Your Time” by Dan Martell. A book recommended to me by someone much further along in business than me. At first I was like, “Great, another book to add to the list of things I need to do.” Then I started listening on and after a couple chapters I ordered the physical copy.

I felt like I was writing down everything I was hearing as I listened. Now I can highlight and fold down pages and reference it later. Or read along while listening to focus better 😅

THE ONLY BIRD THAT DARES TO ATTACK AN EAGLE IS A CROW, BUT THE EAGLE NEVER FIGHTS BACK. HERE IS WHY:

1. The crow is the only bird bold enough to sit on the eagle's back and peck at its neck.

Relentless. Annoying.

But the eagle... stays calm.

2. The eagle doesn't flap. Doesn't fight. Doesn't waste energy. It does one thing: It rises.

3. The higher the eagle soars. The thinner the air becomes. The crow? It can't handle the altitude.

4. Eventually, the crow gasps. Loses strength...And falls off.Not because the eagle attacked

I’ve been keeping a secret for some time now. Building websites has always been my main focus, but helping clients increase their website traffic to see growth in their business has been on my heart big time. For the last 15 months I’ve been learning, developing, and implementing a brand new service. In March of 2023 I approached one of my website clients about being my guinea pig for a few new things I wanted to practice. Her and I have become really close friends over the last fews years and there were a few areas of her business I knew I could help with. Specifically, project management and SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

When I approached her about possibly becoming a monthly retainer client for a few months she was thrilled. Long story short we’ve been making a lot of progress, so after those first few months so we decided to keep going. Helping to create systems to generate consistent and manageable growth takes a lot of time, but it’s been sooooo worth the effort. It’s been an honor to get to be a part of the behind the scenes and truly understand how things work. Deeply understanding the ins and outs of how a company runs is so interesting to me. There are always small improvements that can be made, that in time, can create sustainability, consistency, and most importantly growth. The success we’ve seen has me deeply excited about the future.

Helping small business owners has always been the driving force in everything I do, so adding SEO as a service feels really exciting! More details to come.

Short little walks throughout the day ease my mind when it’s racing. As a small business owner we deal with so much in a day. We’re not just the owner, we’re the marketer, the sales person, the one who takes care of admin tasks, develops a strategy, implements that strategy, and serves customers too. The balance between serving current customers and continuing to bring in new customers can feel like juggling sometimes.... and I don’t even know how to juggle haha. Just wanted to pop in and say, you’re not alone! Keep going, your dream is worth pursuing. All the late nights you’re spending working on your dreams and serving others is worth it, I promise. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, go for a 10min. walk, I promise you won’t regret it. Give yourself permission to breathe for a bit. It’s so so important.

Most businesses don’t make it past the 1 year mark, let alone the 5 year mark. This means starting strong in the beginning with a solid strategy, marketing, and offering is incredibly important. I started Create & Collab. 5 years ago today with a dedication to help business owners develop an online presence they’re actually proud of. Empowering them to build consistent and manageable growth. When you work with us (yes we have some new partnership you’ll find out about soon!) you’ll get to experience what it feels like to have your vision brought to life. Here’s why I’m not ‘afraid’ of the competition:

I don’t see others in my industry as “competitors”. First of all, people are always going to go to the person they feel most comfortable with – the person they know, like, and trust. I know tons of hair dressers, but I always go to the same girl, why? Because she’s a good friend and I trust her!

Your ‘competition’ is simply another person you can link arms with and learn from. We always have something to learn from each other. You’ll either learn what to do, or what not to do.

Instead of trying to be better than your competition, figure out how you’re different. Figure out the type of clients they really enjoy working with. You may like working with a totally different group of people? If that’s the case, you both may be able to send each other great referrals?

Meeting other people in my industry has been a huge blessing. I’ve been able to send them work and they’ve been able to send me work too. We’re all in this together. Thinking that there isn’t enough work out there is a scarcity mindset… and staying in this kind of headspace will never amount to anything but garbage.

Link arms. Connect with others, you’ll be so surprised and what you learn and how you can grow together!

*NOTE: There will be people in your industry that you don’t like or don’t care for. Maybe they don’t treat customers the way you believe a customer should be treated. Avoid those people. Use wisdom as you connect, but go into it new connections with an open mind. If you see red flags, quietly step away. Don’t gossip, don’t spread rumors, just quietly step away.

I took a break from social media to focus on mental health more heavily. I’ve had a few people ask, “I haven’t seen you post on social media much, do you still have your business?” Y’all. If someone asks you this, don’t let it get you down. You can still work your business and not be present on social media. Of course if you want your social accounts to grow, consistency is key. As your business grows, word of mouth referrals will grow. These word of mouth referrals help your business grow, even if you’re not on social media. What a blessing this can be! Taking a break doesn’t mean you’re quitting - it means you’re making something else more of a priority. I felt like I was suppose to share this here!

I said this to someone on a zoom call a couple weeks ago and they said, “wait… say that again!” One of the ladies on our zoom was talking about not being entirely sure if she could do something. Consistency builds courage, just came out of my mouth without even thinking.

It was something she needed to hear and I need to adhere to. We all have tons of ideas, we talk about them with friends, we listen to videos about them, maybe we rewatch the same training video 80 times… but attempting it… well, that’s a different story entirely.

I truly do believe that consistency does build courage. We’ll never be fully prepared or fully equipped before we start, but that’s also why my favorite quote will always be “God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.” Whatever it is you’re hoping and praying for is absolutely possible. Just START. The time is now.
