Boundary County required more than a visual refresh; they needed a system that simplified public access to information and streamlined internal content management.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺
The County’s legacy Drupal site had become a barrier for residents and staff alike. Years of accumulated documents and departmental data created a labyrinthine navigation system that forced users to understand the County’s internal hierarchy just to find basic services. Maintenance was cumbersome, leading to inconsistencies across departments. Furthermore, the County needed to prepare for upcoming government mandates by moving toward WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Well Dressed Walrus rebuilt the platform using WordPress, focusing on two goals: ease of use and manageability. We overhauled the information architecture to prioritize a "Departments & Services" structure, allowing residents to find information intuitively.

Accessibility was integrated into the foundation, not added as an afterthought. Instead of migrating thousands of potentially inaccessible PDFs, we worked with the County to transition key content into accessible web pages and implemented a sustainable system for historical records.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱:

Launched in July 2026, the new site provides a modern, scalable infrastructure. Residents now enjoy a direct path to services, announcements, and records. County employees can update content efficiently within a user-friendly WordPress environment, eliminating the frustrations of the old legacy system.

By treating accessibility as a core component of content creation rather than a checklist item, Boundary County has established a sustainable "digital front door" that is organized, compliant, and built to serve the community for years to come.

Residents rely on Lakes Highway District for important information about road projects, public meetings, permits, and district policies. However, the previous website made this information difficult to find. Content was buried in documents, navigation was confusing, and staff had limited ability to keep updates organized. As a result, community members often had to call the office to get basic answers, and the District lacked a simple digital system to communicate clearly with the public.

Well Dressed Walrus partnered with Lakes Highway District to create a custom WordPress website designed around the real needs of residents and staff.
