There has been some progress on broadband for Harrison residents.

Outer Reach Broadband, a fixed wireless provider, has service working in part of Harrison. Lewis Rd should have good signal quality, I’m not sure yet how far the signal reaches.

They’re offering 100Mbps down by 20Mbps up for $49.95 per month. Cheaper than Spectrum’s 100Mbps x 10Mbps service.

You can contact them and they may be able to give you a better idea on how strong of signal you’ll get at your address.

Please don't use Avast or AVG antivirus products.

"An Avast antivirus subsidiary sells 'Every search. Every click. Every buy. On every site.' Its clients have included Home Depot, Google, Microsoft, Pepsi, and McKinsey."

"However, while most security software promises your safety, some don’t make good on that promise. Look at Avast, an anti-virus guilty of selling users’ data to other companies, resulting in one giant data breach.

AVG did the same exact thing as well. Don’t even get me started on free VPNs, which are guilty of acting as hotbeds for malware, viruses, and scams."

Since the outbreak there has been growing need for staff to access their computers remotely.

Here is a list of several free and paid services with reviews from TechRadar.

I use the paid version of ConnectWise. They also have a free option that allows for one person to access a computer remotely.

The best remote desktop software to access a PC and deploy software remotely around today.

Please do not let someone remote into your computer, unless you know who they are! Microsoft will not contact you remote into your computer.

I received a call tonight that a customer had let someone remote into their computer and now they can’t get into their computer. Whomever connected to their computer set a password preventing them from logging in. They called back and wanted to money to install “SonicWALL” security software (SonicWALL doesn’t make security software).

I can’t stress enough that these people are scammers and only want your money and personal information.

The end is near...for Windows 7. Support for Windows 7 ends January 14, 2020.

The Windows 10 upgrade is still free from Microsoft. Do a search for Windows 10 Media Creator and you can upgrade your computer to Windows 10 or create a Windows 10 installation disc.

On older computers, adding RAM and a solid state hard drives helps boost performance.

Please be cautious when opening links in emails. These emails may appear to be from a know vendor or customer but contain malicious links that redirect you to a fishing website. If you’re unsure of the email, contact the sender and verify that they did send the email.

There was a time when email could be trusted, but know there are too many untrustworthy sites out there looking for your email address and passwords.

What do you use for a search engine?

I’ve always used Google. Google seems to have tweaked their search engine to give results that follow their own political agenda. I’m trying DuckDuckGo. I tested a searches on Google and DuckDuckGo. DuckDuckGo gave me the result I was looking for and Google gave me paid ads and nothing about what I was looking for.
