Community Collaboration Brings Lasting Impact: New Roofed WASH Station Built for Lucena East VII Elementary
Lucena City, Philippines — In the spirit of Brigada Eskwela 2026, Lucena East VII Elementary School has strengthened its efforts to promote student health and community cooperation through the successful construction of a roofed WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) station, benefiting more than 800 learners.
The initiative was made possible through a collaborative effort among Lucena East VII Elementary School, the Kiwanis Club of Quezon Finest, and HelpeerZ. Designed to promote proper hygiene and provide a safe, accessible space for daily handwashing and toothbrushing, the project responds to the growing need for improved sanitation facilities in public schools.
Brigada Eskwela Chairperson Rowena J. Adormeo, Principal II of Lucena East VII Elementary School, led the school’s efforts, coordinating with volunteers, teachers, and community stakeholders to ensure the project’s completion. Representing the Kiwanis Club of Quezon Finest, its current president, Arlene Buenafe, who is also a member of the faculty of Lucena East VII Elementary School, highlighted the organization’s continued support for education and child welfare through meaningful community initiatives. She also expressed her gratitude to all officers and members of the Kiwanis Club of Quezon Finest, HelpeerZ, as well as the volunteers and faculty members who supported the project in her school. She further shared her personal perspective on working closely with the children:
“I’m fortunate to work closely with children, connecting with them daily and understanding their worries and dreams. Through this, we at the Kiwanis Club of Quezon Finest are able to create meaningful projects that make a positive impact in their lives.”
Additional insight was shared by Engr. Raymond Buenafe, LGE and President Elect of the Kiwanis Club of Quezon Finest, who spoke on the purpose behind their continued service.
“It is always a privilege to serve underserved communities, where children are the ultimate beneficiaries of the projects we are part of. I believe they can succeed in life if we are there to help them navigate life’s uncertainties,” he said.
Their shared commitment as a couple reflects how personal and professional partnerships can come together to create meaningful impact in the community.
The newly constructed roofed WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) station provides students with protection from the sun and rain while encouraging consistent hygiene practices, an essential factor in maintaining a healthy learning environment. Beyond its physical structure, the project represents shared responsibility and collective action among educators, civic organizations, and volunteers.
