Buried in last week's CMMC news is a detail most owners will miss — and it's the one that carries personal risk.

On July 13, the Department of War suspended CMMC Phase II, the third-party certification requirement for Level 2 contracts. That's real news. But DFARS 252.204-7021 didn't go anywhere: where it's in your contract, you still need a current self-assessment score in SPRS, and a named senior official at your company still has to personally sign an annual affirmation that you're compliant.
That affirmation isn't a formality. It's a personal attestation, and an inaccurate one creates False Claims Act exposure — suspension or not.

For Vermont businesses in the defense supply chain, our read is simple: this is a pause on one enforcement mechanism, not a pause on your obligations. Keep your SSP current, keep your POA&M honest, and know exactly what you're signing before your next affirmation.
