September is when the IT budget actually gets decided
Not December, when the quotes are rushed and the lead times are long. Not January, when the money is already committed. Now.
If your Q4 budget funds exactly five things, we would argue for these:
Getting off Windows 10 for good. Managed patching with proof — 31% of breaches now start with a vulnerability someone already published a fix for. MFA with no exceptions. Backups you have actually restored from in the last 90 days. And training your team on phishing that arrives by phone.
Those five map directly onto how breaches are actually happening right now, according to the largest dataset Verizon has ever compiled for this report — more than 22,000 confirmed breaches.
There is also a practical reason not to wait. Business-class hardware is ordered, not bought off a shelf. Projects started in September finish comfortably. Projects started in December finish in February, badly.
Start with a risk assessment. You get a prioritized list with real numbers you can hand straight to whoever approves the budget. (831) 724-4634
