If you make video content, or you work with anyone who does, YouTube just changed the rules on how creators get paid.

The catch is that most of the coverage got the numbers wrong. There are two different thresholds doing two different jobs, and mixing them up is the difference between "this affects me" and "this has nothing to do with me."

Joe wrote up what actually changed, plus the part nobody wants to say out loud about what that Shorts money is really worth.

YouTube changed how creators get paid in 2027. Most coverage mixed up the numbers. Here's what actually changed and what it's worth in real dollars.

Rhode Islanders don’t need directions for this one. 📍

You’re driving through Providence, you look over, you see the Big Blue Bug, and you know exactly where you are. 🐜

No address needed. No introduction needed. Honestly, you don’t even need to see the company name. That’s pretty impressive when you think about it.

A giant blue termite sitting alongside I-95 became part of Rhode Island culture, and decades later, it’s still instantly recognizable to just about anyone who grew up here. 🗺

🧠 There’s a marketing lesson in that.

The brands we remember usually give us something unmistakably theirs. A color. A character. A look. A feeling. And then they stick with it long enough for people to make the connection without having to think about it.

The Big Blue Bug definitely doesn’t blend in. 🩵

And that’s kind of the point.

Half our branding conversations hit the same wall. We get to color and the client tells us their favorite color is purple. 🧐

That's a real answer. It's just not an answer to the question we asked.

Color psychology is real and it's also oversold. Blue doesn't magically make people trust you. What's true is that color sets a tone before anyone reads a word, and a law firm and a taco truck shouldn't be reaching for the same palette. 🎨

But look at these four again. Pink UPS doesn't feel wrong because pink is wrong. It feels wrong because you've seen brown UPS ten thousand times and the pink version breaks the file. That reaction is brand equity. UPS spent decades buying it.

You'd know a Del's cup from across a parking lot. Same mechanism. That took decades. 🍋

Most small businesses never get there, and it's almost never a color problem. It's a consistency problem. New marketing person, new template, new palette, and nothing gets repeated long enough to stick.

You don't need the perfect color. You need a defensible one, then you need to be boring about it for ten years. 💤

👉 Which one felt the most wrong to you?

Real Housewives of Rhode Island has put the state in front of 2.7 million viewers, with audience growth still climbing four episodes in.

Whether you watch it or not, the country is paying attention to Rhode Island in a way it hasn't in years. That kind of attention creates a real opportunity for local businesses, but only the ones who are ready for it.

A little local color: our founder Joe grew up in Johnston promoting clubs with Pauly D before Jersey Shore happened, and knows a few of the women on RHORI. Small state, small worlds. That's exactly why the show works, and exactly why local businesses should be paying attention.

We wrote a piece on what to actually do with this moment. It's not about being on the show. It's about being findable when people start searching. 👇

Bravo just handed Rhode Island national attention. Here's what local business owners should actually do with the spotlight while it's here.
