Happy Bosses Day to our leadership team. This year they got a calendar packed with 12 months of our team’s words of wisdom (we use “wisdom” loosely), plus some unique temporary tattoos of the emojis we usually only see in our Slack channels. Some gifts you frame. Others you wear on your forearm in a client meeting.

We’re not sure how relaxing your September was, but at Blend we didn’t seem to sit still even for a second.

Between Karla becoming an Optimizely OMVP at this year’s Opticon, Corey’s time on stage at MAC Conference talking about AI search, and Taylor attending Inbound in Boston, we were on the move nearly every week this year. And that’s not even counting Umbraco’s US Fest, which is happening right as we speak!

Most important, though, was that Blend Basecamp brought the team together to collaborate, grill out, and paint some flowers and sunsets. It was a month of “showing up” and staying on the move. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Basecamp is a wrap! After a week of having our remote team all in one place, they’re all returning to their individual offices. For every lunch that ran long, or random office conversation, or crowded conference room, we gained a better understanding of each other.

We spend most of the year connected through screens, and this was a great reminder that a few days in the same room can do more than any of those screens could ever hope.

It’s Basecamp week at Blend Interactive, which means our remote team members are in Sioux Falls. For just a few days, the whole company is in the same room instead of the same Slack channel.

Between the collaboration sessions and shared lunches — and tonight’s Blend BBQ — the goal of Basecamp is all of the stuff that doesn’t show up on a calendar. All of these hallway conversations help build camaraderie that we might not always get when we’re stuck in those Zoom squares.

After twenty-one years, we still believe that the work gets better when everyone knows each other, and that’s what this week is for.

Blend’s Silver-level Bicycle Friendly Business certification has been extended for another five years. We believe more people on bikes is good for all of us, and we’re always happy to offer a bike-friendly space here in Sioux Falls. Thanks to the League for the recognition, and GO RIDE A BIKE!

We’re reflecting on summer so far, and it has us thinking about one of our favorite local projects — Let’s Skate and the Barb Iverson Skate Plaza.

Two summers ago, Sioux Falls got its skatepark. We helped build the site behind it, and we’re still proud of the small part we played.

Some traditions are hard to keep. This one is not: it’s Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day, so the Blend team did what we do every year — grabbed Blizzards and called it a team lunch.

Every Blizzard sold today sends a dollar or more to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. It makes the treat a little easier to justify. See you the same time next year!

In June 1912, The Illustrated London News published the first documented mention of a minigolf course, called the Gofstacle. Over 114 years later, Blend spent a hot day surrounded by black light pirates. No one knows who actually won, but legend tells us it might have been Karla Santi. The minigolf founders would be proud.

Our post-Codegarden tradition? It’s celebrating our Umbraco MVPs with breakfast. Because, as we all know, “MVP” stands for “Most Valuable ... Pancake?”

“Minimum Viable Pancake?” “Maximum Volume of Pancakes?” We give up, honestly.
