Greetings fellow music educators and colleagues in percussion. Wanted to take the opportunity to introduce my book, “The Dynamic Art of Snare Drum”. It has been available in it’s final published form the past two years and is steadily expanding in use throughout Texas and beyond. The basic components of the method were first developed in 1993 as principles of Technique for students to easily understand, internalize, and consistently apply in a confident independent manner across the percussion spectrum. Subsequent years brought further expansion of concepts and the addition of extensive supporting reading exercises. The Dynamic Art of Snare Drum was the result of this process and the emergence of a method referred to as the Modular Technique System. The primary body of the book comprises 14 Lessons that establish a strong fundamental knowledge of Stroke (Motion), Sticking, Dynamic Level, and Rhythm. Each of the first 14 Lessons is comprised of three basic areas of study: Technique Introduction/Reinforcement, Progressive Studies Reading (Repetition), and Comprehensive Studies Reading (Variation). Reading spans Quarter Value through Sixteenth, duple and triple in all subdivisions including detailed instruction in dotted rhythms. Lessons 15-18 introduce and bridge the student into full Rudimental Style Reading using a unique 2 & 4 measure fragment method for confidence building and traditional Grid Style technical development for speed and mastery. The Dynamic Art of Snare Drum is not only an excellent method for establishing confident self empowered beginners at the completion of year 1, but also a highly effective system for further development of Intermediate and Early Advanced students grades 7-12. It’s a great way to close those reading and technical gaps that often occur with students. As you plan your upcoming year of class or private instruction consider using The Dynamic Art of Snare Drum for your program’s foundational needs. Individual and bulk orders (District PO) are processed through Drumdaysmusic.com. Please feel free to contact me at japodacastudio@gmail for support. Thank you and best of luck on an outstanding year of percussion education!
Kind Regards,
