ChatGPT is hurting Bakman Technologies, and other small companies, but not the way you think!
We've been seeing a marked decrease in quote requests this year. I initially thought it was all the turbulence in the world, but then when watching how my son uses ChatGPT to find products online I had an epiphany - I typed “where can I buy a THz spectrometer?” into ChatGPT and Bakman Technologies wasn’t on the list! We’ve been in business for ten years! We were the first to fly a THz spectrometer on a consumer drone, we are the only company with cryogenic capable photomixers, we are the only company to offer an avionics ready White cell and yet, we are not on the list!
It was at this moment that I realized that ChatGPT and other Ai systems are going to favor large established companies over small companies and start-ups. Competing with the big guys has always been a challenge, but now I fear that Ai is going to make it even harder or possibly impossible.
So, here is my question to the masses – Is this a previously unrealized threat that AI posses to small businesses? If you've a small business or consulting gig, give the experiment a try.
