Internal linking is nobody’s favorite job.

That’s probably why it gets missed.

It’s not particularly exciting, it’s easy to keep pushing down the list, and unlike publishing a new article, there’s rarely anything to show for it immediately.

But internal links help search engines understand how your pages relate to each other, which pages matter, and how users can move through your site.

The problem is that most teams treat internal linking as something you do while publishing a new page, rather than something you manage across the whole site.

A proper process looks more like this:

Audit → Map related pages → Identify opportunities → Add links → Review regularly

You look at what you already have, find the connections that make sense, and make sure important pages aren't sitting there with no useful path leading to them.

It’s not glamorous work.

But neither is most of the work that makes SEO actually work.

Internal linking shouldn't be an afterthought. It should be part of the content process from the start.
