MTEC ITIM students gained hands-on experience configuring VoIP phones using VLANs. This is a common method used by businesses to isolate voice traffic to enhance security and ensuring call quality. Separating voice data improves the overall network performance and allowing for better application of Quality of Service.

ITIM students learned to configure parabolic dishes to simulate a point-to-point connection. This gives students an idea on how businesses bridge internet from one location to another. This is essential for a company that has multiple locations in a metropolitan area.

ITIM students learned how to configure a load balancer to simulate managing two redundant internet connections with automatic failover. Students successfully tested the setup by simulating a link failure and maintaining continuous connectivity. This practices gives students proof of concept on how businesses maintain availability.

One of the most important concepts in network design is segmentation/security. In this activity, students learned how to implement segmentation using VLANs and subnets, this gives them a basic understanding of how corporate/business networks segment different departments through the use of VLANs and subnets. Students also created sub-interfaces to allow inter-VLAN routing.

ITIM students gained hands-on experience working with keystone jacks, patch panels, and Ethernet cables. Keystone jacks and patch panels are essential components of structured cabling systems used in offices, schools, and data centers. Practicing real-world tasks in a safe learning environment helps students build the confidence needed to perform under pressure in future jobs and internships.

ITIM students are currently in the Network+ term learning to configure DHCP on a Windows Server. Students were tasked with configuring a scope, defining IP address ranges, subnet masks, and default gateways. These hands-on skills are essential for network administrators, as DHCP plays a critical role in managing large and small scale networks.

Faces of Success: Keana Garciano-Whitton a 2023 alumnus of the Information of Technology and Infrastructure Management program at TCAT Shelbyville. Keana has been working at BlueVoyant as a Senior Cybersecurity Analyst for 9 months.

The ITIM instructors are very proud of Keana's success and accomplishments!!!

ITIM students learned how to install Windows Server 2019 on multiple Type 1 hypervisors. They then promoted the server to a domain controller and set up a user to use roaming profiles when joining the domain. This is a foundational concept in system administration. The students will manage these servers until the end of the term to continue performing enterprise-level tasks.

ITIM students learned to install network printers through TCP/IP instead of Host names. Hostnames rely on DNS resolution, which can fail or cause delays if the DNS server has issues. Adding a printer through its IP address is often more reliable than using a hostname because it eliminates the need for DNS resolution

ITIM students at MTEC gained hands-on experience using advanced file/folder sharing with auditing enabled. They assigned specific users to the files and folders, ensuring that only authorized individuals had the necessary access and permissions for their working environment.
