10 Years - A Reflection from Spencer
Wow. First of all, I couldn't imagine being here today without all the amazing customers, many who I now call friends. As we get closer to our celebration I've seen many of you come out of the woodwork again who used to be regulars, or lived in the old neighborhood, or just had great interactions with me. I've really enjoyed hearing from you all, no matter how long it's been since I last saw you. I like to believe that this shop is more of a community than it is a store. Strange to realize that I've attended events, music shows, weddings, and even funerals of "customers" (that word feels wrong, you all are so much more!). I've watched some families start, watched kids grow up (even hired a few that started coming in at 10 or 11!), and helped thousands of you improve your musical or outdoor journey. I love this place, I love what it has become, and I love all the people who have helped it become what it is! I am so lucky to have survived, and thrived over the past 10 years due to the community that has seen my vision and mission and shown up. Thank you. Thank you for supporting us by telling your friends, showing up to our events, choosing to buy from us instead of sometimes more convenient alternatives, donating or selling us gear and media, sending us support when we were broken into, or simply visiting the shop! I am a big talker, and passionate about improving the lives of those around me, which is something I'm realizing more and more over the years. This shop has been an avenue for me to improve the lives of my neighbors and community through music and hiking. In the last 3+ years I've been slowly becoming more involved in local small business help through our Lake City Business Alliance, along with getting more involved in speaking up at City Hall, City Council, OED, and Department of Neighborhood meetings, in order to try and create a city that supports small businesses. It's frustrating watching new businesses struggle, and then fail due to lack of support, knowledge, help, community, etc. I'm not sure what the next 10 years holds, but I know that helping my community is going to continue to be my priority. Whether that's by continuing to spearhead things like the Lake City Art Walk (started June 2025), or helping partner with businesses like Blooms & Twine (partnered Sep 2025), or shifting to help mentor and guide new small business startups, or possibly moving towards something in politics, my heart is still in the same place: how can I improve and love my neighbors and community to the best of my ability? And Turntables & Trails? It's going to keep right on rocking and continuing it's purpose of helping enrich lives through re-connection with nature and music.
Thanks for reading.
Sincerely,
Spencer Carson
P.S. I hardly mentioned all the AMAZING employees I've had over the years. I've employed 20 people in the past 10 years, and they've ALL helped the shop and me become what we are. THANK YOU to: Theao, Angela, Salana, Dave, Brad, Gavin, Dominic, Scott, Evan, Cody, Tim, Gabe, Alex, Theao, and my current team of Izrael, Rob, Meggie, Nathan, Daryn, and Danielle.
