I love the concept of re-purposing and giving something vintage a new life. My favorite items to work on are vintage radios, old cameras and classic world globes. These items are the perfect platform for a modern revamp because of their unique design. The vintage radios often look great on the outside but no longer work because of defunct electronics inside. I bring them back to life by replacing
the old guts with a new amplifier, wiring, speakers, back-plate, mp3 input and LED light. For the retro cameras I focus on old cameras that can not be shot because the film stock it uses is no longer produced. Inside each camera I install a highly efficient Class D amplifier, an input for your mp3 device speaker terminals for bookshelf speakers. I use the original shutter release for the power switch and film advance for the volume control. The camera powers a pair of brand-new bookshelf speakers to create one very photogenic sound system. I'm always on the hunt for vintage globes because they work perfect for a revamp due to their shape and size. I slice the globes in half and install several speakers all the way around the world. I also add an on/off switch, LED light and volume k**b on top near the north pole. Beyond the awesome re-purposing aspect these updated vintage items look great as design pieces. Most modern day stereo systems are a bit of an eye sore and rarely add to a home's interior design. I believe there's no reason why music shouldn't look as good as it sounds.
