Important story in U.S.A. Today by acclaimed police experts Charles Ramsey and Laurie Robinson mentions Polis Solutions' T3 training as a possible way to address excessive force and police-community trust.

The hold used on George Floyd was deemed dangerous enough for most departments to stop using it. A national standard could wipe it out entirely.

Thanks to Bellevue, WA Police Department for hosting Tuesday's T3 - Tact, Tactics, and Trust User-Level course. We had an outstanding group of trainers and officers from Bellevue PD, Auburn PD, Issaquah PD, King County SO, Marysville PD, and Seattle PD. Here's Polis Training Director Sgt. (ret.) Don Gulla coaching officers in a scenario exercise on how to integrate tactical and verbal skills to ensure that a suicidal man who has agreed to surrender is safely and respectfully taken into custody. Creating a positive "ripple effect" helps ensure a safe resolution not just to this incident, but to future contacts this person, his family, and watching neighbors may have with police.

Here's a just-published study by the Polis Solutions team on police expertise and the use of force showing that experienced officers place a higher priority on force mitigation and de-escalation than novice officers in their decision-making. The results of the study suggest ways to further improve use of force training by accelerating the development of expertise in newer officers. Thanks to BJA for funding this important research!
