48 years ago this week, the first computers were attached to an ethernet bus-style network revolution. At the time, the network had speeds of three megabits per second! The IEEE SA 802.3 working group played an integral role in the standardization of ethernet leading to its wide adoption today. Do you remember when you first plugged in using an cord?

Katherine Pratt, a BRL Ph.D. candidate and a 2018 TechCongress Fellow, is featured in the fourth issue of Marvel's The Unstoppable Wasp. She is an Agent of G.I.R.L.: Genius in Action Research Labs, a feature created by the comic's creator, Jeremy Whitely. Each issue focuses on super hero engineers and scientists.

We are very excited to share news about a recent NIH grant for ethics of neurotechnology. The $1.5M was secured by a team of researchers at UW, including members at the BioRobotics Lab.

University of Washington researchers in the Center for Neurotechnology are studying how brain-computer interfaces affect whether patients feel they are in charge of their own actions.

On the evening of 16 October,Dr. Tom Lendvay received the UW Medicine Inventor of the year award for CSATS -- the BRL spin-out which was recently acquired by J&J! Hearty Congratulations, Dr. Lendvay!

Other BRL inventors include Tim Kowalewski, Lee White, and Blake.

We are very happy to share some exciting news about our graduate student, Katherine Pratt!

Katherine was honored by TechCongress as a 2018 Congressional Innovation Fellow. She will work with a Member or Congress or Congressional office to research, advise and craft technology policy.

At the University of Washington, Katherine is the recipient of Irene Peden Endowed Fellowship for 2018-2019. This fellowship was established by Prof. Emerita Irene Peden, the first female member of our faculty at UW Electrical Engineering.
