Memorial Day - Remembering the Cost of Freedom
Memorial Day was born from grief, remembrance, and gratitude.
In the years following the American Civil War, families and communities gathered to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers, a tradition once known as Decoration Day. What began as a quiet act of mourning became a lasting national remembrance for all those who gave their lives in service to the United States.
But Memorial Day is more than history.
It is the memory of sacrifice carried through generations.
It reminds us that freedom was never simply inherited; it was protected by ordinary people who chose extraordinary courage. Young men and women who left behind families, dreams, and futures, believing that service to something greater than themselves mattered more than fear.
Behind every folded flag is a life once lived with hope.
Behind every moment of peace is a sacrifice once made in silence.
Today, as flags rise and families gather, we pause not only to honor the fallen but to reflect on the values they carried: duty, resilience, unity, and love of country. Their legacy lives not only in monuments or history books but also in the freedoms we experience every single day.
Some returned home as heroes.
Some became the reason a nation remembers.
May their courage never become something we take for granted.
And may our gratitude be shown not only today, but every day. ❤️
