In light of Columbia University expelling and revoking degrees of pro-Palestine activists and President Trump’s vow to deport pro-Palestinian protestors, Resume Builder surveyed 988 U.S. hiring managers in March 2025.

We sought to understand how, in today’s heightened political climate, workers who hold pro-Palestinian or pro-Hamas views are being considered for jobs — or whether their current employment is at risk.

What we found:

~ 8% of hiring managers have rejected candidates who expressed pro-Palestine views, and 19% would consider doing so
~ 8% chose not to hire candidates with pro-Hamas views, and 35% would potentially do the same
~ Hiring managers are concerned such candidates may create conflict, an unsafe environment, or public relations issues
~ 5% have terminated fired workers for having pro-Palestine views and 6% for pro-Hamas views
~One-third of companies are more cautious about hiring political detractors under the Trump administration

Resume Builder’s January 2025 survey of 2,000 Americans who have applied for jobs finds:

- 44% of Americans admit they’ve lied in the hiring process
- 24% have lied on their resume, 19% in an interview, and 6% on their cover letter
- Americans generally lie about their skills and abilities, years of experience, responsibilities in previous positions, and lengths of positions held
- Additionally, 9% have lied about their disability status, 7% about their race and ethnicity, and 6% about their veteran status
- 4 in 10 have landed a job as a result of lying
- The majority say lying has helped them succeed professionally, including obtaining a higher salary

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work has remained a popular option, though some believe it has drawbacks, including interpersonal and mental health challenges.

In November 2024, Resume Builder surveyed 1,000 remote employees to understand how working remotely has impacted social skills and mental well-being.

Key findings:

-- 1 in 4 remote employees say working remotely has led to a decline in their social skills
-- Remote workers say they struggle more now with feeling self-conscious, small talk, and maintaining eye contact
-- 7 in 10 remote workers rarely work outside of their home, such as in co-working spaces or coffee shops
-- 1 in 5 remote workers report a decline in their mental health, largely due to isolation and lack of social connection
-- The majority of remote workers don’t feel connected to their co-workers or community
-- 4 in 10 would prefer to work in person at least once a week

To better understand how managers perceive and interact with employees or candidates who support President Trump, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 756 U.S. managers who have at least one direct report, the week of November 11, 2024.

Key findings:
- 1 in 6 managers are less likely to hire a candidate who supports Trump
- 1 in 8 managers are less likely to promote an employee who supports Trump
- Managers cite concerns that supporting Trump signals poor decision-making skills, lack of empathy, and the potential to cause workplace conflicts
- Some managers admit to actively trying to encourage Trump-supporting employees to quit

To gain an understanding of how many companies are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in hiring, Resume Builder surveyed 948 business leaders in October 2024.

Key findings:

- Half of companies currently use AI in the hiring process, and 68% will by the end of 2025
- A number of companies currently have AI conduct entire interviews
- Nearly all companies believe AI produces biased recommendations

Workers and companies continue to clash over return-to-office (RTO) policies, with Amazon recently making headlines for mandating a five-day in-office workweek.

In September, ResumeBuilder.com surveyed 1,030 U.S.-based full-time employees working for companies that implemented an RTO policy since 2020, now requiring employees to go into the office at least once per week.

Key findings:
~ 1 in 5 workers aren’t following their companies’ RTO policy
~ The majority of workers want to be in-office 3 days or less per week
~ Many workers will quit if their company forces compliance
