Currently, there are no FDA-approved therapies or vaccines for SARS-CoV-2. As of April 2020, the antiretroviral medication prodrug remdesivir is being tested as a specific treatment for COVID-19. In collaboration with the University of Washington IDEA Program, Cognition Studio has created a series of CME-based visualizations based on SARS-CoV-2 RNA-dependent RNA Polymerase (RdRp) and Remdesivir Mechanism of Action. The Cognition team's interest in understanding the novel coronavirus evolved into a concentrated cross-team initiative involving science storytelling, design, writing, and development. From research to concept to a fully fleshed out case study, we have aimed to translate science efficiently by providing clarity in the complexity. We'll be updating this case study on a routine basis adding features for knowledge translation.

The novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, is the cause of COVID-19, a severe respiratory disease first detected in Wuhan, China. The spread of COVID-19 is an emerging global health risk that is similar in many ways to the severe respiratory disease, SARS, that emerged in 2002.
