Portraying the art of whole body healing through chiropractic care:

A young, passionate chiropractor with the burning desire to open his own practice to help people of all ages heal wanted a logo that wasn’t “typical” in chiropractic branding. Cliche hands, abstract swish people, and stiff blue spines were off the table, and that’s just what we were hoping for.

His approach to chiropractic care isn’t just coaxing a bone back into place here or there, but rather, getting to the root of the problem holistically.

Our approach:
Since our client wanted to convey the “art” in his healing methods, we knew we had to really think outside the box… which is exactly the space where we like to create. Rather than creating a literal, static canvas graphic with some sort of imagery lifelessly sitting on it, we got to work with real paint. Abstract vertebrae after abstract vertebrae, we created pages of bold black marks. We digitized and finessed the marks to create a beautiful and unique mark that’s still says “chiropractor”, but in a fresh and unique way.

Canvas of Health: A Chiropractic Studio will be opening soon!

Individual Abilities in Motion (I AM) aspires to support individuals with mobility impairments in achieving the highest possible level of life satisfaction by discovering, celebrating, and developing individuals’ abilities.

Individual Abilities in Motion’s (I AM) vision is to be the leading organization in Northeast Pennsylvania to provide mentoring, motivation, support, and opportunities from peers and experts to people with mobility impairments. We are a source for knowledge, experience, and resources, as well as programs and activities to help members overcome obstacles and enrich their lives.

Members and their families get together to push their individual limits, reinvigorating the thrill of life. Activities include sky diving, modified waterskiing, wheelchair basketball tournaments, paint nights, hand cycling, and more.

For more information about this incredible organization, please visit check out Individual Abilities in Motion (I AM)!

We had worked with IAM for a few years with a variety of design projects, including event tees, infographics, sponsorship packets, event graphics, and more. We were familiar with the organization and their amazing mission to help people push past their limitations and live life to their fullest potential.

We wanted to keep the color scheme of the original logo, which many people were already familiar with. In color psychology, red embodies excitement, energy, passion, and courage, so it was a fitting choice to keep.

The use of bold typography and subtle, dynamic elements help the organization stand in its power.

There's been radio silence on this page since lockdowns in March, when the rug was pulled out from under many of our feet. I spent most of the year in "survival mode", doing whatever I could to make ends meet, just like everyone else. I had to set my business aside to take care of the things needed to be addressed immediately after most of the incoming jobs from other deeply impacted small businesses were cancelled or put on hold indefinitely. Don't get me wrong, though. I don't fault anyone for that. We all had to do what needed to be done for our immediate survival. Things fell apart, but beautiful new things always begin to sprout after the ashes stop smoldering, right?

I'd like to think so.

I'm hopeful, looking forward to the fresh start that 2021 is going to bring. I'll be working on rebuilding this page from the ground up. I'm starting with a clean slate, so if you don't see any content here, that's why.

Even though I'm as battle-weary as everyone else, I'm so grateful that I was able to hang on through this... so far, anyway. I almost gave up on my business so many times. I send all my love to those who had to make the difficult decision to close up shop this year. I also give heartfelt thanks to those who stuck with me even in my flakiest, most overwhelmed times while I was silently sorting everything out and doing what I needed to do.

I appreciate each and every one of you and I'm wishing for much better things for all of us in the upcoming year.

Q: What’s the first logo you designed?

So, I was in a “band” for a hot minute when I was a sophomore in high school... we weren’t very good, but we had a lot of fun. We mostly played each other’s birthday parties. 😂😂😂

Anyway, I made a logo for us. It might be super cringey now, but I was so proud of it. Good thing I learned all that hand lettering a few years before! 😂

Dang.

What is the first thing you ever designed?

When I was a kid, I always loved to draw. When I was in middle school in the 90s, this book about hand drawn lettering caught my eye at the Scholastic Book Fair. Man, I miss the thrill of book fairs! Haha! I wish I could remember the name of the book, but it had a blue cover and I think it was called something like “1001 handmade alphabets”. I’m sure I’ll remember what it was called at 3am while I’m trying to sleep.

They had some crazy lettering in there. There was lettering that looked like rope next to big, thick letters dripping with slime… all sorts of crazy lettering that you could learn to draw. It was the first time that I realized that there was more to writing than just print and cursive.

I used to practice drawing out my favorite alphabets for hours, trying to get each curve just right. I specifically remember drawing the rope-style lettering the most because it looked so complicated and impressive to me, with all the little lines for the braids.

I think that’s when I first fell in love with typography, even though I didn’t know that “typography” was a thing yet. I still consider that my first “design” experience because I used that lettering to make posters and stories, decorate folders and book covers, and create things for my friends.

Happy 2020! Let’s do this!

Kicking off a fresh new year, I want to start by reintroducing the team and telling our story. One of my goals this year is to post consistently for myself, too... not just for my social media management clients!
