You answer the phone. We handle the rest.

That's the arrangement. You're good at the work and at closing the customer standing in front of you. Everything upstream of that — getting found, getting called, and knowing which effort actually produced the call — is a full-time job that nobody running a crew has time for.

So we run it. Local listings kept accurate everywhere people search. Google and Meta campaigns aimed at buyers rather than tire-kickers. SEO that puts you in the map pack and in AI answers. Call tracking so no lead goes unaccounted for, and a dashboard you can open at 11pm if you feel like it.

One team. One point of contact. Your phone rings.

Your holiday hours are wrong.

Almost everyone's are. Thanksgiving, the week of Christmas, New Year's Day, the random Friday you close early — Google shows whatever it has on file, and what it has on file is usually last year's guess or nothing at all.

The cost isn't abstract. Someone drives over, finds a locked door, and leaves a one-star review about it. Or they see "hours may differ" next to your name and call the competitor whose listing looks certain. Fifteen minutes of work in October prevents both.

Set them now, while it's quiet. Future you is busy.

The first cold night is your busiest day.

Here's the part most owners miss: the calls you take that night were decided days earlier. Someone's furnace made a noise, they searched, they read a few reviews, and they picked who to call before anything actually broke. By the time the phone rings, the choosing is over.

Which means October is the month that matters, not November. Service pages that answer real questions, a Google Business Profile that's current, and enough recent reviews to look like the safe choice.

You can't schedule the weather. You can be the name they already picked.

Your cheapest lead already bought from you.

You spent real money earning that customer the first time — ads, SEO, the estimate, the follow-up. Then the job wrapped and they never heard from you again. Meanwhile you're paying full price to go find someone new.

A simple email list fixes most of this. Seasonal reminders, a maintenance nudge, a note when you add a service they'd want. It's the least expensive marketing you can run and the most consistently ignored, because it isn't as satisfying as watching new leads come in.

Repeat work doesn't need a sales pitch. Just a reminder you exist.

How many leads did you get last month?

Ask your marketing company that question and pay attention to the shape of the answer. If it comes back as impressions, reach, or brand awareness, that's not a report. That's a deflection.

Every FT Media client gets call tracking and a dashboard showing which campaign produced which call and which form fill. You can listen to the recordings. You can see which page the lead landed on first. We built it that way because we spent years cleaning up after agencies that never showed their clients a real number.

Transparency isn't a feature. It's the floor.

100 days left in 2026.

First day of fall, and exactly one hundred days until the year closes. That's enough runway to move rankings, get a Google Business Profile fully built out, launch a paid campaign and let it actually optimize, and stack up reviews before the holidays.

It is not enough time to start in December. Everything worth doing in search has a lag between the work and the result, which is why the businesses that finish strong are the ones who quietly got started in September.

Hundred days. Still plenty.

Your customers are asking AI about you.

"Who's the best HVAC company near me" doesn't always go to Google anymore. A growing share of it goes to an AI assistant, which reads your website, your reviews, and your directory listings, then hands back three names. If your information is thin or inconsistent, you're not one of them.

The good news is that there's no separate playbook for this. AI pulls from the same signals local search always rewarded — accurate listings, clear service pages, real reviews, a site that plainly says what you do and where you do it. Businesses that already did that work are showing up. The ones that didn't are invisible in a whole new place.

New search box. Same fundamentals.

49 leads in 30 days.

That's what a home organization company brought in during the first month after we launched their paid social campaigns. Not impressions. Not reach. Forty-nine actual people asking for a quote.

Paid social gets dismissed as a branding play, and it usually is when nobody bothers to build the targeting around who actually buys. Get the audience right and it becomes the fastest lead source in the mix — faster than SEO, which is a longer play we ran for them at the same time.

Both matter. One just shows up sooner.

They read your reviews first.

Before anyone visits your website, they've already scanned your star rating, read the two most recent reviews, and checked whether you bothered to respond to the bad one. That decision gets made in about eleven seconds.

Two things move the needle here, and neither costs money. Ask every satisfied customer while the job is still fresh in their mind. And reply to every review, especially the critical ones — future customers care far more about how you handle a complaint than about whether you ever got one.

Five stars from three years ago isn't a reputation. It's a memory.

Built by hand.

The HVAC tech on a roof in August. The landscapers who start before sunrise. The contractors, cleaners, caregivers, and crews who show up when it's 110 degrees or pouring rain and get it done anyway.

We've spent 25 years marketing for businesses like these. What we've learned is that the work speaks for itself — our job is just making sure the right people hear about it.

Happy Labor Day from all of us at FT Media.
