At AKOS, we’ve got our own dictionary of terms and practices that keep us on our toes (and sometimes keep us laughing). A few we’ve coined, a few adapted as our own. Here’s one we’re particularly fond of:

RUBBER DUCKING⁣

The art of explaining a complex problem to a Rubber Duck (bathtub variety) to gain clarity through the act of articulation. The rubber duck, ever stoic and silent, serves as a mysteriously helpful listener, happy in the knowledge that its mere presence has guided you to clarity.⁣

Thou shalt not summon the Duck for the obvious and attainable; the Rubber Duck is reserved for the perplexing, the inscrutable, and the seemingly insurmountable of challenges. 🦆

If you live in the United States, you’ve likely received a hefty bill after a doctor’s visit. Unfortunately, this is the norm… but for how much longer? Technology has made it easier than ever for patients to have both control & transparency over their health journey.

The Keep A Breast Foundation is a non-profit that has been around since 2000. Their mission is to empower young people around the world with breast health education and support. We built Keep A Breast, a mobile application that does just that.

The application is built as a 5-step self-administered breast exam with resources and success stories from Breast Cancer survivors. Best of all? It’s completely free. In the case a user finds something abnormal during their self-check, they are connected with resources in their region. This not only assists users with locating abnormalities but helps them take preventative measures as well. The application recently expanded access to not only French & English speaking users but also to Spanish speaking users. They plan on releasing more languages in the future to expand access to as many users as possible. The launch of the application in Spanish is just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Our mission is to empower young people around the world with breast health education and support.
