It’s super easy to add Bluetooth to almost any stereo receiver.

The adapter I’ve been bundling with my systems is from KAIY. It has RCA, 3.5mm AUX and optical outputs, plus Bluetooth 5.3. Setup is simple, and the ones I’ve used have been very reliable.

They’re around $15 on Amazon. Add a USB-C power brick and for under $25 you can stream Spotify, Apple Music or just about anything else from your phone through an older stereo system.

If your receiver has an optical input, you can even keep the connection from the Bluetooth adapter to the receiver digital.

Here’s the one I use: https://a.co/d/0aiv4dbf

You can follow me on TikTok . Lately I’ve been helping new turntable users get set up. Here are a couple of guides I put together with operation basics and troubleshooting.

It’s super important to understand how preamps influence your connection to a receiver or powered speakers. If you have a turntable with a built-in preamp, you may notice a significant improvement in audio fidelity with an external preamp or a quality preamp built into your receiver.

A phono preamp affects sound quality. A turntable produces a very small signal that must be amplified and properly equalized. While built-in preamps are convenient, a quality external preamp or phono stage in your receiver can provide lower noise, better clarity, tighter bass and improved detail. You don’t necessarily need to upgrade, but it’s an often-overlooked part of getting the best sound from your turntable.

Just finished putting together a new system, sounds awesome. A 3.1 system with bookshelf speakers, a center channel, and a powered subwoofer is one of the most versatile configurations. It will handle TV, music streaming, and vinyl.

I did a walkthrough of my process when I intake new gear. It’s very involved, typically 2 to 3 hours. I was searching for a simple Sony stereo receiver to pair up with pristine Sony bookshelves. This one checked all the boxes. I’m going to list this system with a DVD/CD player, it’s also perfect for a compact turntable system. I love it when the perfect receiver or speakers for a system find me.

I spend a lot of time helping people get their systems set up, and these are the tips I find myself sharing most often. I put them together in one simple guide because you can often get more out of your system without spending more money. One of my favorite upgrades for bookshelf speakers is a good pair of speaker stands. You don’t have to spend much—there are plenty of affordable options on Amazon.

If you want great sound in a compact footprint, these PreSonus studio reference speakers are a great solution. No need for a receiver. The speakers have a built in amp. Big sound in a small package bundled with a Sony DVD/CD player. You can also connect a turntable. This was my personal office set up, I’m also making the console available for $30. Message me if you’re interested.

One of the things I enjoy most about collecting audio gear is finding components over time and waiting until the right pieces come together.

I found these matching Onkyo speakers a few months ago and held onto them until I came across the perfect Onkyo receiver. It checked all the boxes I was looking for. 4K HDMI, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi streaming, and a built-in phono input for a turntable. I’d been sitting on the Velodyne subwoofer to place it with a higher end 3.1 system.

There’s something satisfying about putting together a system where everything just belongs together.

As always, everything has been cleaned, tested, and is ready for its next home. If you’re looking for an upgrade from TV speakers or a soundbar—or just want one system that does a little bit of everything—I’d be happy to show you what this one can do.

My grail of CD changers. I’ve been hunting one for a couple of years. Third one I’ve found, first one that works flawlessly. The original owner definitely cared for it. Sony CD Player CDP-CX235, a 200 disc robotic disc changer circa 2000. I can fit half my CD collection in it. Create an index and you can assign discs to groups by genre. This was the GenEx version of Spotify back in the day.
