During the holidays is when we see a spike in network attacks. Why is that?

Most IT firms and businesses run a skeleton crew since a lot of staff need to use their PTO or just take off for the holiday. Hackers know this and have been planning on it most likely all year.

The attackers likely already had a foothold in a network but ran quietly in the background. They waited for this moment when defenses are weak because there’s not enough personnel to remediate issues.

I’m not telling you this to scare you but to inform you on the very real threats we work to protect you from every day. Always have a plan for when you believe your IT security teams may be running thin.

Some of the largest attacks happen this time of year. Be mindful and be prepared.

As a small business owner, am I afraid of a recession?

The short answer is: Absolutely not. I started my very first business in 2007 and as many of you know that was probably as hard as it has ever been in our lifetime.

Back then I had zero clients and zero revenue. Somehow under those tough conditions I was able to be creative and actually gain traction.

Was it fun all the time? No. Was it very hard? Yes. Do I regret starting a business during a recession? No.

As hard as it was, it was one of the many blessings in my life. I know that if I can start a business during The Great Recession, in easier times I will thrive and that is exactly what happened.

Sure, slowdowns and recessions are not fun. However it does give us the opportunity to grow as an individual and make our businesses stronger.

Here are 4 tips on how to maximize your business profits with IT services.

1. Replace older/slow computers. Slowing down your staff is costing you way more in profits than it is to replace the machine.

2. Security - Reduce employee downtime and make sure you are securing your devices and email. Breaches are some of the most expensive events that can occur in your business.

3. Reduce your IT infrastructure. Get rid of those old servers and start reducing the amount of servers you have onsite at your business. With less servers, you'll also reduce your backup and storage costs. You will also reduce the overhead cost of software licensing and physical hardware.

4. Train your staff. If your staff does not know how to use the systems and software in place, this will cost your business in productivity. A lot of times bottlenecks can be smoothed out with a little training. This will give your staff confidence in using the systems to do their job.
