AI can build your app in minutes, but that doesn't mean it's secure.

Vibe coding opens the door to anyone, but security knowledge doesn't come bundled with the generated code. No peer review, no input validation, no vetted dependencies. Just vibes.

Review the output. Test it. Pen test it. 'It ran on my machine' is not a security posture.

Each week brings new reminders that data security gaps can hit any organization, large or small. The following are some of the most notable breaches disclosed or confirmed in recent days, each reinforcing how vital proactive testing and vendor oversight have become.

1. Qantas – Personal data of 5.7 million customers exposed (via a call-centre vendor). The breach included names, frequent-flyer numbers, contact details and dates of birth.
2. Toys ‘R’ Us Canada – Customer information leaked online after a data-breach incident involving an external service provider. The leak encompassed names, email addresses, phone numbers and postal data.
3. Sotheby’s – High-value auction house confirms theft of sensitive customer data including some Social Security numbers. Hacker group publicly listed the exfiltrated information.

Why it matters:
The compromised data may not only affect customers but can serve as the launch point for identity fraud, phishing campaigns or access to corporate networks.

Don’t find yourself on this list. Reach out to the ViperByte team for a dedicated pe*******on test before hackers find a way in.

A new zero day vulnerability in Google Chrome’s JavaScript engine (CVE 2025 10585) has already been used by hackers, according to reports from Help Net Security and The Hacker News. Because Microsoft Edge is built on the same platform, it faces the same risk. Researchers at DeepStrike.io found that almost half of all zero day attacks now target browsers and network software used every day by both businesses and individuals.

The impact is serious. A single visit to a compromised website could let attackers silently install malware, steal passwords, or gain access to sensitive data before a patch is even released. This is why keeping browsers updated is not just an IT task, it is a basic layer of protection for anyone who goes online.

Check out today's video where we show a brief demo exploiting an old application called Remote Mouse. Exploiting this RCE vulnerability allows us to receive initial access and is a reminder to make sure you aren't using outdated software, and to not expose unnecessary services to the internet.

A pe*******on test isn’t one-size-fits-all.

External tests check if hackers can get in from the internet, while internal tests uncover what happens if they’re already inside. Both are essential to building a strong security posture!

Do your defenses protect against both internal and external threats?
