I want to thank everyone who has emailed, phoned, and DM’d about “What the heck is going on, Marc? No Practical Paranoia postings for over a month.”

Well, here is the scoop:

Over the past 17 years living here in New Mexico, I’ve been high-speed rear-ended while waiting at a stop light 7 times.

All have sent me to hospital. Two have broken my back.

I’ve had two neurosurgeries, around 40 lumbar epidurals, and countless other procedures that have allowed me to walk (poorly).

Four months ago I woke unable to use my left leg due to extreme pain and full muscle cramping. MRI’s determined I had a severe collapse of my spine from L-1 to S-5, with severe nerve impingement.

My Dr. said the solution was another neurosurgery. I said no. The previous two caused as much damage as they helped.

Hoping bed rest would resolve the issue didn’t help. Things got worse. The intractable pain and cramping over the past 6 weeks has beaten every drug given.

I’m scheduled for another lumbar epidural Monday, July 10. My hope is that gets me vertical and off the drugs.

I’ll also try an implanted neural stimulator. Going full Borg 😉

Failing that we go for another surgery.

In the meantime, my good friend and colleague Glenn Norman has completed v7 of our Windows security book, and I’m halfway through the new macOS security book. The iOS security book will just have to wait.

Your best wishes are greatly appreciated.

Stay safe and secure.

Warmly,
Marc Louis Mintz
