As of August 1, Google will stop supporting some older browsers (IE7, Firefox 3.5, Safari 3) in order to make better use of modern standards. If you're still using one of these, please consider upgrading to a newer, more secure version now to avoid unexpected surprises. For best security and protection from malware, stick with Google Chrome or Firefox 4.0.

Tip of the day: If your computer or software is asking you merely for permission to update itself, this is nearly universally important to allow, and will help protect your computer. If something is asking you to pay to upgrade it, or download and manually install something else, be suspicious.

Microsoft provides a very well-regarded anti-virus option in the form of Security Essentials, but until now it hasn't been officially supported for small businesses. Looks like as of today this has been resolved.

Vonage has released an Android app that enables free calls to Facebook friends who also use the app. It's essentially a VoIP application, so only your data connection is used. Anyone on Facebook planning to try this out? I'm downloading it now...

Looks as though Apple's efforts to spread the blame by pointing out their competitors' antenna issues hasn't done as well for the company's image as hoped. They've now pulled down the page dedicated to showing the flaws in other brands' antennas (ignoring the difference between weakened signal and fully dropped calls). Could this be the beginning of the end for Apple's flawless PR record?

Apple Antennagate Maybe Apple finally figured out how to hold a phone, or maybe it just realized it was bad PRmove to begin with -- either way, all of those "tests" at apple.com/antenna showing other phones losing signal strength when held have disappeared.

AT&T's making some major changes to their data plans, replacing their unlimited and tethering options with plans that are cheaper for those who barely use data, but much worse for the rest of us. And all you iPad owners who purchased based on the extremely reasonable data plans? Bait-and-switch time, because your plan's going away only two months after its release. Phishing grows up: meet tabjacking, a new and clever method that ups the ante. It's simply a proof of concept at this point, but more evidence that you need to be ever diligent in watching your browsing habits and paying attention. In this case the trick uses Firefox's tab functionality to wait for you to move away from the tab for a few seconds at which point it changes to look like Gmail. Next time you're having a bad day, just compare it to how the Apple employee who left the prototype for this year's new iPhone in a bar must feel. The phone was carefully disguised as a 3GS with case, but the moment the case came off all the details were revealed. Gizmodo's managed to disassemble the device and confirm quite a bit of information. If you're an iPhone fan and looking to upgrade, it looks as though this is the one to wait for.
