Officer Chase Thompson was hundreds of miles from home and off duty when he suddenly found himself in the middle of a tragedy.
While on vacation in Nashville, Officer Thompson witnessed a vehicle strike four pedestrians crossing at Fourth Avenue and Broadway. One person lost their life, and several others were critically injured.
Without hesitation, Officer Thompson ran toward the chaos and immediately began providing lifesaving aid to one of the critically injured victims, performing CPR and relying on his training during the crucial moments when every second mattered.
Days later, the victim’s husband publicly thanked Officer Thompson for saving his wife’s life. He called him a hero and shared what Officer Thompson’s actions meant to their family: “Me and her kids can carry on our lives and she will be a part of it.”
Those words put into perspective the impact of what happened that day. In the middle of unimaginable tragedy, Officer Thompson gave a family something priceless — more time together.
His actions remind us that being a police officer is about far more than wearing a uniform. It is about having the courage to step forward when someone is hurting, the compassion to help when help is needed, and the commitment to serve wherever you are.
Officer Thompson, we are incredibly proud of you. Thank you for representing the very best of the Boynton Beach Police Department and for reminding us what it truly means to serve. 💙
