RTI manufactures SURGE-GARD™ Inrush current limiting devices using specially formulated metal oxide ceramic materials. (Ref.

These devices are capable of suppressing high inrush current surges. They are especially useful in power supplies where the low impedance of the charging capacitor exposes the diode bridge rectifier to an excessively high current surge at turn-on. Thermistor Terminology for Inrush Current Limiting Devices
•IMAX - The maximum steady state RMS AC or DC current.
•IOP - The actual operating current.

RIMAX - The approximate resistance under maximum steady state current conditions.
•MAX Operating Temperature - RTI's recommended maximum ambient temperature is 65°C without de-rating. Fig. C for de-rating information)
•Recovery Time - SURGE-GARD™ devices require time to return to their ambient resistance state in order to provide adequate inrush current limiting at each power turn-on. This time varies with each device, the mounting configuration and the ambient operating temperature. RTI recommends a minimum of 60 seconds. The selection of a capacitor bleeder resistor can reduce the required cool down time requirement

When designing a temperature detection circuit, it is important to not pay for more than is actually needed.  By understanding the requirements of an application, an optimal temperature sensor can be

egative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistors are thermally sensitive
semiconductor resistors which exhibit a decrease in resistance as absolute
temperature increases. Change in the resistance of NTC thermistor can be brought
about either by a change in the ambient temperature or internally by self-heating
resulting from current flowing through the device. Most of the practical applications of
NTC thermistors are based on these material characteristics.
NTC DISC & CHIP Style Devices
RTI manufactures DISC & CHIP style thermistors in resistance values ranging from
1.0 ohm to 500,000 ohms. These devices are suitable for a range of resistance
values and temperature coefficients from relatively low resistance and temperature
coefficients to very high values. Precision resistance tolerances are available to 1%.
Standard resistance tolerances are from 5% to 20%. All tolerances are specified at
25°C or may be specified at any temperature within the operating temperature range

CARSON CITY, Nev. — June 4, 2014 — Ametherm today introduced new NTC disc thermistors — recently acquired from Measurement Specialties (formerly RTI Electronics) — featuring a wide range of resistance values and precision tolerances to 1 % for high-accuracy temperature measurement.
Providing designers with a cost-effective alternative to thermocouples in precision circuits, the NTC disc thermistors deliver high stability and maximum sensitivity for temperature measurement, compensation, and control in applications such as fan motor controls, fluid levels, and temperature sensors in a wide range of end products.
With diameters from 2.54 mm to 12.7 mm and profiles from 0.64 mm to 5.33 mm, the devices released today feature resistance at 25 °C from 4 Ω to 150 kΩ, Beta from 3000 °K to 5000 °K, and high-temperature operation to + 150 °C. The NTC disc thermistors offer dissipation constants from 3 mw/°C to 17 mw/°C and thermal time constants down to 5 s. RoHS-compliant, the leaded components are available in insulated and non-insulated configurations.
