contract. As a decorated music supervisor from 1984-2006, Ray found that dealing with music rights and the subsequent delays were inevitable- making the whole process an absolute headache. Ray's dream was to make licensed music readily available to buyers and give undiscovered, emerging talent a chance to be heard. Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, and in the years since it has spread to thousands of cities across 120 countries. Last year, was the first time it has been celebrated across North Carolina. It was also the beginning of the NC Music Office. I’m so excited to see that this week our SANFORD mural project depicting The Piedmont Blues featuring Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. Floyd is buried in an unmarked grave near Sanford.

Two years ago enjoying a brew with my musician friend Chad Spivey at the Camelback Brewing Company, Chad asked me if I knew how Pink Floyd came up with their band name. I did indeed know about this as I had previously tried to work on a memorial project for Floyd Council 11 years ago, so we decided right there and then to take it upon ourselves to create a way Pink Anderson and Floyd Council via a mural could be memorialised in downtown Sanford, and to remember how Syd Barrett, a founder member of ‘The Tea Set’ was inspired to rename his band to PINK FLOYD.

We contacted Liz Whitmore of the Sanford appearance committeethey liked the idea and a search was on to find an artist and funding!

We would like to send a special thanks to John and Jenks who allowed us to use their building for this beautiful painting created by brilliant young artist Britt Flood
