Farsight Security, Inc.

Farsight Security, Inc. Farsight Security, Inc.’s (now apart of DomainTools) real-time Passive DNS solutions provide critical context to prepackaged threat feeds, e.g.

IOCs, allowlists, blocklists. Today threat intelligence lacks the context needed to be actionable. Founded in 2013 by Internet pioneer and DNS thought leader, Dr. Paul Vixie, Farsight Security, Inc. provides network security solutions that deliver that critical contextual information (the information documenting the network configuration of the threat and of the Internet surrounding the threat) to

significantly increase the value of threat intelligence. Farsight solutions help reduce false positives, accelerate and amplify the detection of new threats by identifying known associates, enhance mitigation strategies with plug-and-play solutions, and improve predictive models aimed at detecting impending cyberthreats

Although SPM55 is a relative newcomer to the Indonesian cybercrime community, a marked uptick in activity and known customers over the last several months suggests this group seeks to scale their business operation, possibly in response to the collapse of competing Indonesia-based phishing vendors.

After two decades of data management being a wild west, consumer mistrust, government action, and competition for customers are bringing in a new era. Firms that generate any value from personal data will need to change the way they acquire it, share it, protect it, and profit from it.

Navigating privacy protection, new regulation, and consumer revolt.

“They’re a cool technology and that means they’re subject to abuse, like all the cool technologies, right?” said Tim Helming, a computer security expert from DomainTools. Helming says scammers are now in the game, turning those codes into your misery. “It could be that they are making a fraudulent payment, it could be that they are downloading malware onto your phone,” he said.

QR codes are those black and white boxes you shoot, your phone interprets, and then everything from menus to deals pops right up on your device via the internet.

The DomainTools Report seeks to explore our stores of domain registration, hosting, and content-related data to surface patterns and trends that might be of interest to security practitioners, researchers, and anyone else interested in the suspicious or malicious use of online infrastructure.

For this edition, we chose to go “back to basics,” and focus on concentrations of malicious activity by six categories of domain characteristics, several of which we also studied in earlier reports.

“There is good guidance here from the agencies,” said Tim Helming, security evangelist at DomainTools, “though it’s tempting to look at it as motherhood-and-apple-pie: the vast majority of owners and operators of critical infrastructure are well aware of the threats, and are also cognizant of many of the fundamental steps toward hardening their assets against these threats."

With the U.S. and Russia eyeing each other over Ukraine this week, American cybersecurity authorities have issued a guide to managing Russian state-sponsored cyber threats to U.S. critical infrastructure. The joint advisory released Tuesday by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CI...
