Short Timeline of the Pay Phone

First pay telephone, which people would use by putting coins into slots. Jan 1, 1888

The very brilliant invention of the pay phone, not only providing a useful way to instantly communicate with multiple people on the go but allowed the person to do so with as little as a nickel or otherwise free. Providing such a unique service and earning its way in the media timeline, the “pay phone” has furthered itself leading up to the home phones we use and most recently the cell phones we own today.

By 1902, there were 81,000 pay telephones in the United States.

In 1960, the Bell System installed its millionth pay telephone.

In 1998, there was 2.6 million pay telephones.

On Feb. 2, 2001, Bell South announced that it's getting out of the pay phone business. That would make it the first major phone company to do so.

In 2011 XoomCharge, Inc. launched it's Smartphone Charging Stations, meeting the demand of today's mobile device users, keeping them plugged-in, connected, and on the go, now and well in to the future.
