Talk about extra legroom... 🙌
On my way from Australia to New Zealand, I flew Business Class for the first time. It was awesome!
After a 3.5-hour flight, I felt productive AND rested. Woot!
As my friend said, it's fantastic motivation to work hard and smart to always fly like that.
This time, I got lucky (but there is something to increasing "luck surface area", and that's what I'm doing by traveling the world this year).
How it all went down: I bought the cheapest economy ticket for $122, and then saw it didn't include any luggage.
Searching for a way to add bags, I found something curious on the Air New Zealand website: I could submit a bid for an upgrade. If they accepted my bid, I'd be upgraded & my card would be charged. If the bid was too low, I'd stay in my orginal class.
They gamified the process, too, with a bar that showed your chances based on the amount of your bid. Sounds like a smart strategy, eh? I wonder why more airlines don't do it.
I bid $89, and the bar identified my chances as "extremely low". Good thing I'm a marketer, so I immediately translated that as "moderate".
So long story short, a few days before the flight they upgraded me to Premium Economy, which included 2 bags, yay!
And then at the airport another flight got cancelled and all passengers were moved to our flight, so they had to push everyone forward. Which meant pushing Premium Economy to Business. 🙌
Moral of the story:
👉 Flying business class is freaking awesome - it's my goal to easily afford that every time I fly.
👉 More airlines should gamify upgrades.
👉 Increase your luck surface area (Google that and read the article by Codus Operandi - should be the first result).
