Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation wrought on our beloved Los Angeles by the Palisades and Eaton fires. We are with you—our friends, families, neighbors, contributors, subscribers, advertisers, and team members who have been impacted by this unimaginable tragedy—and we will support you however we can in the coming days, weeks, and months.

Since so many have lost homes or been displaced, we will be holding off on mailing out Issue 01 to addresses in regions affected by the fire. If you are based in LA, please email [email protected] when you are able with either confirmation of the address we have on file, OR a different mailing address where your first issue can be safely delivered.

We wanted to celebrate the significance of Al Wathba Wetland Reserve — the only breeding site of Greater Flamingos in the Arabian peninsula, and habitat to hundreds of resident and migratory bird species alike.

We were inspired by traditional Arabian urban design incorporating narrow alleyways that provided shade and breezes. Earth, with its high thermal mass, was used as the primary building material to reduce heat gain during the day and to hold heat in the desert night.

How do we look to the future & think about built spaces this Earth Day?

Imagine being able to find sustainable materials when we start making homes and offices again. Would a free and open sustainable materials sourcing app be used by anyone? Does anything like that already exist?
