Met a man from Missouri last night in San Francisco who told a story about his trip to Finland some years ago. His American Finnish friend also from Missouri had asked him to join a brewery competition of some sort as a guest judge and told him despite some people don't speak English there he can always step in to a conversation by adding "niin" every couple of minutes of so. He saw some men drinking beer and decided to try and listened in for many, many minutes and nodded couple of times and added "ni-in, niiiiin or ni" as instructed. It worked for several hours and beers and still today those men didn't know he did not understand one word they exchanged. You can guess which word he started his conversation with me.. Happy weekend, discuss with a stranger! Nii, Joo
