I had to struggle for that selfie.

Upper Yosemite Falls. Nearly 5 miles straight up. Rocks. Boulders. Slippery terrain. Halfway up, my mind started negotiating. Stop. Turn back. This is too much.

I've heard that voice before — when revenue dips, when the client says no, when you've given everything and the finish line still isn't visible.

One foot in front of the other. That's all it ever is.

We made it to the top.

Standing there I felt relief, gratitude, and still a little annoyed at my husband for telling me to go faster the whole way up. 😂

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. For founders, rest isn't a reward. It's research.

I used to hide behind a safe title. 🫣

When OakBloom Marketing was born, our founder, Jeanel Carlson, played small.

💡 The most dangerous person in the room?

The one having the most fun.

I learned this lesson the hard way.

As a kid, I dreamed of spinning on the ice like an Olympian.

My parents took me seriously and put me in outdoor skating lessons in -10°F weather. 🥶

I didn’t make it to the podium (or the next winter, for that matter),

but I never lost my love for watching the sport.

Watching the Winter Olympics last week, I saw two ends of the high-performance spectrum that every professional needs to see:

1. The Weight of the Outcome
My heart broke watching Amber Glenn’s short program.

You could see the visible, crushing emotional pain of ruined medal chances after a fall.

We’ve all been there—when a project we poured our soul into fails, and the weight of the result feels like it might break us.

2. The Power of the Journey

Then, there was Alysa Liu.

We often hear athletes say they are just there for the experience, but we rarely believe them.

We assume they’re masking a hunger for gold.

But watching Alysa?

It was pure, unadulterated joy.

She wasn't skating against the judges; she was skating for herself.

As her coach, Phillip DiGuglielmo, put it:

"Alysa is different. We know she wasn’t here to win a medal. She was here to skate and to enjoy it."

When asked about it herself, Liu simply said:

"The journey. I love it. I love it."

WHOA... The job market just got even weirder. 🤯

Paradoxes. Scapegoats. And, lies?...

Let's 👀 the massive paradox hidden in the 2026 hiring data.

1.2 million U.S. jobs were cut last year...

BUT the "AI Revolution" is starting to look like a convenient corporate scapegoat and lie.

Hard to get my head around...

Yet, the numbers are jarring.

THE REALITY CHECK: 2025 saw the highest level of job cuts since the pandemic, mirroring the 2008 financial crisis. And the trend isn't slowing—56% of hiring managers expect more layoffs this year.

THE PARADOX: 92% of those same hiring managers say they still plan to hire aggressively in 2026.

⁉️ More layoffs AND more hiring ⁉️

We aren't just in a down market.

We are in the Great Rebalancing.

Companies are shedding "legacy" roles and middle management to "realign" with AI.

(AKA - experienced leaders are facing the chopping block.)

And the entry level is hitting a wall, too.

First-time job seekers are struggling—only 30% of 2025 grads secured a role in their field, a 5-year low.

THE SCAPEGOAT (or LIE?): A new report reveals that 59% of leaders admit they blame "AI" for layoffs because it sounds strategic to stakeholders—even when the real driver is just old-school budget pressure.

In 2026, both college grads and experienced workers are facing the Great Reinvention.

World-class professionals are being sidelined—not because they lack talent, but because they are caught in a misalignment of corporate narratives.

You can’t wait for a manual on how to navigate this.
