This month, AMI is closing its doors and shutting down operations. In this post, our CEO Amal takes time to reflect on what our incredible team accomplished these last 6.5 years.
My co-founder Phil and I started working on AMI full-time in January 2016. We were inspired to build our company after speaking with a number of direct sellers who shared their frustrations managing their businesses using archaic paper-based systems. Phil and I built the first version of the AMI app together, ran a 6-month beta program, and launched within a year. Later that year, we secured to build out our team.
Over the next several years, we went on to collaborate with innovative direct sales companies looking to empower their field with technology. We did this by embracing a mindset and hosting advisory councils, beta programs, and attending conferences where we saw sellers use our technology in-person. We repeatedly did studies to show that sellers who used AMI saw anywhere from 30 - 55% higher sales than those sellers who did not. Sellers shared testimonials like: “AMI makes me look like a rockstar! It keeps me organized and never lets me forget to follow-up.”
In June 2020, we went 100% remote and never looked back. We continued to deliver innovations that enabled our community of sellers to keep their businesses going with the changing times. Sales for our community of sellers continued to increase, our team grew, and we welcomed more AMI Customers who were eager to provide tools to advance online sales. Most recently in Spring 2021, we launched our AMI for Affiliates solution, seeing a growing need for brands to launch their own affiliate programs.
Unfortunately, we were not able to sustain as a business. As the tech venture fundraising climate cooled down in Winter 2021 and after exploring other options, I had to make the difficult decision to wind down the company.
