There’s a special joy in reconnecting with someone you once mentored — a quiet reminder of why this work matters...

Catching up with João Pedro Antunes in France brought back all the early memories: curiosity, grit, long talks about the industry, and watching potential unfold. Seeing him now — confident, accomplished, thoughtful — felt like witnessing the full arc of a story I was lucky to see begin.

At BeatBabel, we’ve mentored so many talented people from CAWEB MASTER'S DEGREE to Middlebury Institute Globalization & Localization Association programs. Some stay, some explore new horizons, but the pride in seeing them grow never changes...

Moments like this stay with us. 🌟

And a big shoutout to Renate de la Paix, Eva Klaudinyova, and more for their dedication to students.

DID YOU KNOW?

That voice in your head isn‘t actually making any sound.

When you read silently, rehearse a conversation, or think through a problem, your brain creates the experience of an internal voice.

For multilingual people, it gets even more interesting. Your inner voice may switch languages depending on your environment, emotions, or what you’re thinking about.

Some people think in one language.

Some switch between several.

Some don‘t experience an inner voice at all.

💬 What language does your inner voice speak most often?

Ever heard of a “false friend” in translation?

Some words may look familiar across languages — but mean something completely different.

For example:

🎁 “Gift” in English = a present

☠️ “Gift” in German = poison

These tricky lookalikes are called false friends, and they can easily lead to confusion, awkward translations… or some very unfortunate misunderstandings

It’s a reminder that localization isn’t just about translating words — it’s about understanding meaning, context, and culture.

Have you ever come across a funny false friend in another language? Share it in the comments! 👇
