Platform Reality Check: You probably don’t need another platform. You need consistency.

Most retailers are not struggling because they chose Facebook instead of Instagram, skipped TikTok, or have not started using the newest app.

They struggle because marketing becomes something they focus on only when sales slow down.

When business is busy, posting gets pushed aside. Then traffic drops, and suddenly there is pressure to show up everywhere, try something new, or completely change the strategy.

But visibility does not work like a light switch.

Your customers need to see your business regularly. They need reminders of what you carry, what makes your store special, how you help them, and why they should visit or shop with you.

Consistency builds familiarity.
Familiarity builds trust.
Trust makes it easier for customers to choose you.

That does not mean posting every day or being active on every platform. It means choosing the platforms your customers already use and showing up there with a realistic, repeatable plan.

Before adding another platform, ask yourself:

Are we consistently using the ones we already have?

Because the best platform is not always the newest one. It is the one you can use well, regularly, and with purpose.

Before You Run (or Scale) Your Ads, Check Your Foundation!

Ads can bring more people to your business, but what happens after they see your ad or click through matters just as much.

Whether you’re considering running ads, already running campaigns that aren’t performing as expected, or thinking about increasing your budget, take a look at your foundation first:

✓ Is your Google Business Profile updated?
✓ Does your website load quickly and work well on mobile?
✓ Do you have a way to capture email addresses?
✓ Are your reviews current and easy to find?
✓ Is your Meta Pixel installed correctly?
✓ Do you have quality product or service photos?
✓ Does your organic content clearly communicate what you offer?
✓ Are you consistently building trust through Reels, Stories, testimonials, and educational content?
✓ Is there a clear offer and next step for your customer?

You do **not** need to have every box perfectly checked before you begin advertising.

Ads can help you build awareness, grow your audience, test offers, and learn what your customers respond to. However, if your current ads are not performing as expected, simply increasing the budget may not solve the problem.

Before spending more, make sure the customer experience, messaging, organic content, and tracking are working together.

Ads should not be expected to fix an unclear message, a difficult website, weak content, or a lack of trust.

The strongest results happen when your organic content builds the relationship, and your ads help more of the right people discover your business.

Some of the best business advice doesn't come from a textbook, it comes from people who've built successful businesses. 📚

Back when we hosted the Rooted in Retail podcast, we ended every episode by asking our guests one simple question: "What's one business book you'd recommend?"

These are the books they couldn't stop talking about. Whether you're looking to become a better leader, marketer, salesperson, or retailer, this reading list is full of ideas worth adding to your shelf.

Swipe through to discover recommendations from industry leaders including Patricia Norins, Michael Brielmann, Matt Harris, Summer Allen, Landon Metts, Camille Claire, Crystal Vilkaitis, David Foley, Gloria Chou, Natalie Gardner, Vance Morris, and Nate Sheth.

If you're only going to run one Meta ad before the holiday season, make it a lead generation campaign.

A well-built lead form lets you collect information that helps you market smarter, not louder.

But the real value isn't just the size of the list, it's what you do with it next!

Imagine being able to:
✨ Send birthday offers only to customers celebrating that month.
✨ Invite local shoppers to in-store events while promoting online offers to out-of-town customers.
✨ Share knitting classes with knitters and quilting events with quilters.
✨ Send VIP early access to your most engaged subscribers.
✨ Promote holiday gift guides based on the brands or categories people actually love.

Instead of sending the same email to everyone, you're sending the right message to the right people! 🛍️ That's the power of Meta Lead Ads!

They don't just help you grow your email list, they help you build an audience you own and understand.

Every subscriber is someone you can reach for holiday launches, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, events, and new arrivals.

If your goal is to grow your business, stop asking: "How many views did this get?"

Start asking:

✅ Did local customers see it?
✅ Did someone comment asking for details?
✅ Did it drive a website visit?
✅ Did it bring someone into the store?

A post with 100 likes from people who will never shop with you isn't nearly as valuable as a post with 30 likes that results in real customers.

Vanity metrics feel good. Business metrics grow your business.

Focus less on going viral and more on reaching the people most likely to walk through your doors. 📈 That's where real growth happens.

Friendly reminder to stop refreshing the tracking page like it's going to make the boxes move faster. 😅
