Broadcom has stopped users from downloading its Virtual Disk Development Kit, a tool used in migration products that help enterprises move away from VMware. The kit remains available to larger Broadcom software partners, but it is no longer free to download for everyone.

The change affects tools used by Microsoft Azure Migrate, Red Hat’s Migration Toolkit, Nutanix Move, and VMware-to-KVM migration products. The original download link now leads to a 404 page, and several support pages for the kit are also missing.

The move came with little warning, no deprecation announcement, no alternative link, and no explanation. That has raised concern among users who rely on the kit to support migration efforts.

How do you think this will affect VMware migration plans?

Nvidia will use Palantir’s Foundry software to analyze its global network of suppliers and partners for supply chain risks, while Palantir will add Nvidia’s Nemotron open AI model to its AI software stack.

The companies said the deal is designed to improve supply chain visibility and help teams respond more quickly to constraints. Nvidia will use Palantir’s AI stack to identify potential bottlenecks, evaluate alternatives faster, and allocate materials based on end-to-end production impact.

Palantir’s platform for other companies will also gain more supply chain visibility. Customers will be able to train Nemotron with their own data to manage supply constraints and assess trade-offs.

Jensen Huang said the two companies are transforming a vast operational graph into sovereign intelligence for the path from wafer to token.

1.6 terabit Ethernet is moving from specification work to live hardware testing as AI-driven bandwidth demand rises.

The IEEE P802.3dj Task Force is in the final stretch of standardization, while vendors are already bringing 1.6T products to market. Direct-detect 1.6T is already shipping, and interoperability testing is taking place as the industry works to align hardware and standards.

At ECOC in Malaga, Spain, the Ethernet Alliance plans to place 1.6T switches, modules, and cables from more than a dozen vendors on the same show floor. The Optical Internetworking Forum is also highlighting 1600ZR, a coherent interface built to carry a full 1.6 terabit Ethernet connection over a single wavelength.

The next steps include 1600ZR+, aimed at 1,000 kilometers, and 1600CL for roughly 10-kilometer links. What do you think will shape 1.6T adoption most, standards or interoperability testing?

MikroTik has released patches for six RouterOS vulnerabilities, including two flaws that can be chained to take over devices without authentication over SSH. The exploit chain, called MikroTrick, is already being used by attackers.

The vulnerabilities affect several firmware components, including:

SSH server and client
Bandwidth-test service
X.509 certificate handling code
WebFig interface

MikroTik recommends avoiding SSH access from the internet interface and limiting access to trusted IPs only. The company also says devices may be marked as Flagged if compromise is detected in RouterOS logs.

More than 122,500 MikroTik devices have SSH reachable from the internet, with the highest numbers in Brazil, the US, and Indonesia.

How should organizations handle exposed router management services when patches are available but not yet deployed?

Cisco has released software updates for IOS XR after identifying seven vulnerabilities, including two critical issues rated 9.8 in severity. The flaws affect all IOS XR releases, including IOS XR7, regardless of configuration, and there are no known workarounds.

The vulnerabilities could allow remote code ex*****on, root access on a router, access control failures, buffer overflows, and out-of-bounds access. Cisco says the issues are not known to be actively exploited.

Customers can check whether a device is running IOS XR with the show version command. Cisco recommends upgrading to a release with available software maintenance upgrades, then applying the relevant SMUs.

Security teams are being advised to prioritize internet-facing and core routing systems, review exposed management paths, and watch for process crashes, configuration changes, unusual authentication activity, or routing changes.

How are organizations prioritizing patching for critical routing systems right now?

AI data growth is giving tape storage a renewed role in enterprise backup and archival systems.

Companies behind the Linear Tape-Open storage standard say the industry shipped 160.3 exabytes of compressed tape capacity in 2025, the second-largest year on record. Tape capacity shipments then rose 57% year over year in the first quarter of 2026.

The growth is tied to the amount of data produced by AI systems, including training datasets, model checkpoints, and research data. Tape is also being used for conventional archival storage and offline backups.

Tape storage offers low operating costs, high capacity, lower idle power use, and offline protection through an air gap. Compressed tapes can hold from 30TB to 250TB on one tape.

How do you see storage strategies changing as AI data volumes keep rising?

Broadcom detailed new networking updates for VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1, with changes focused on transit gateway flexibility, workload placement, and physical fabric integration.

Key additions include:

Multiple transit gateways per tenant, with independent availability modes.
A virtual network appliance for centralized NAT and load balancing, without an NSX edge node.
VLAN-backed subnets and transit gateway span for finer workload placement control.
Native EVPN VXLAN support for distributed external connections through a route controller VM.
Enhanced Direct Path, AI agent isolation, and an early agentic platform preview for network operations.

The networking updates are designed to make subnet deployment and workload attachment simpler for VPC users. The same building blocks also extend into AI support, including higher throughput for AI workloads and isolated VPC options with private links.

What part of these networking changes stands out most to you?

Arista Networks is warning customers that next week will bring multiple security advisories affecting Arista EOS and VeloCloud.

The company says AI-driven changes to its vulnerability detection process have led to a higher-than-usual volume of security updates, and advance notice is intended to help teams plan.

Key details shared so far:

Arista expects elevated security advisories and batched releases for at least the next few months.
Full advisory details, including CVE information, severity scores, affected versions, and remediation instructions, will be published on September 09.
Each advisory in the upcoming batch is expected to include a software fix and remediation guidance.

Arista also said it has been working with Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and others to add AI-enabled security capabilities into its software security pipeline, using tools such as Mythos and Daybreak.

How should security teams prepare for more advisories delivered on a schedule?

Broadcom and VMware continue to reshape product, service, and support plans following the acquisition, with several major changes now in place.

Key moves include:

Broadcom has shifted VMware from aggressive two-year major release cycles to a three-year cadence.
VCF 9.0 support has been extended to six years, up from five.
Broadcom has also introduced new AI-focused offerings, including the VMware AI Factory, a new agent governance platform, and a secure, AI-ready data foundation in the VMware Tanzu Platform.

The company says the goal is to support production AI on premises through VMware Private AI Cloud. At the same time, some enterprises are reducing their VMware footprint, while others are still assessing the long-term value of the platform.

What change do you see as the most significant for enterprise customers?

Palo Alto Networks has acquired Console to expand the agentic AI capabilities of its Cortex security operations platform.

The Console technology connects to identity systems, SaaS applications, security tools, and other key systems. Its AI agents can understand requests, gather context, execute workflows, and document what happened.

Palo Alto Networks said the addition will help security teams investigate alerts, prioritize work, and automate actions more quickly across networked environments. The company also said natural language workflows can help alert and remediate issues automatically.

Financial terms were not released. The deal follows several other acquisitions by Palo Alto Networks this year, including Chronosphere, CyberArk, Koi, and Portkey.

How do you see agentic workflows changing security operations?
