How is Facebook Making it Easy for You to Create Videos?

Making it Easier to Create Videos on Facebook

The Three Big Takeaways:

Meta is making it easier to create videos on Facebook – starting soon, all videos will be shared as reels.

The creation process will be streamlined, but everything else about Facebook will remain the same.

You’ll still control your audience settings, so you can feel confident that your posts are only seen by the people who matter to you.

Every day, people use Facebook to share content that helps them connect with friends, capture memories and showcase their interests.

Now, Meta is making it easier to share videos on Facebook by simplifying how you create and post videos.

What are 5 effective ways to tell if an online video is real or AI-generated (deepfake or synthetic):

1. Check for Unnatural Facial Movements and Eye Blinking

AI-generated faces may blink less often or too rhythmically, and their mouth movements might not sync perfectly with speech.
Look for odd facial expressions, inconsistent lighting on the face, or unnatural transitions when a person turns their head.
2. Inspect Hands, Reflections, and Backgrounds

AI often struggles with realistic hands, reflections in mirrors or glasses, or complex background interactions.
Look for:
Warped or missing fingers
Jewelry disappearing and reappearing
Inconsistent shadows or blurry backgrounds

What do you need to know in order to prepare your speech or presentation for video recording?

Here are the basics.

Here’s a breakdown to help make your video truly shine and effectively work for you or your organization.

1. Know Your Audience and Goal:

• Who are you talking to? What do they already know? What do they need to know? Tailor your message to resonate with them.

• What’s the point? What do you want your audience to take away? What action do you want them to take (if any)? All good presentations – especially video – need to end with action items. A clear goal keeps your content focused.

2. Craft Your Content – Write your script:

• The outline is your friend: Jot down the main points you want to cover. This helps structure your thoughts logically.

• Keep it concise: Online viewers have shorter attention spans. Get to the point and cut out unnecessary jargon or fluff.

• Write conversationally: Imagine you’re talking to a friend. Use natural language and avoid overly formal phrasing. Nowadays, great video is AUTHENTIC!

• Storytelling is powerful: If appropriate, weave in anecdotes or examples to make your message more engaging and memorable.

3. Practice Makes Polished:

• Read it aloud: This helps you identify awkward phrasing or areas where you might stumble.

• Time yourself: Make sure your script fits within your allotted time. It’s better to be slightly under than to run over.

• Record yourself (audio and/or video): This is where you can really see and hear how you come across. Don’t be afraid to critique yourself constructively. Pay attention to your pacing, tone, and body language.

• Practice in front of a mirror or a friendly face: This can help you feel more comfortable and confident.

• When you practice, be open to improvements and changes. Make notes to your script. Use drama and pauses; raise and lower your voice level; be exciting!

4. Setting Up Your Recording Space:

• Lighting is key: Natural light is best, if possible. If possible, position yourself facing a window. If using artificial light, ensure it’s even and doesn’t cast harsh shadows.

• Sound is essential. IMHO – the audio is more important than the video: Choose a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted by background noise. Consider using an external (wireless or lavaliere) microphone for better audio quality. Always do a preliminary recording and check the audio for quality and clarity and to make sure there are no irritating noises.

Toastmaster Megan Hurley becomes advocate for brain injury awareness

Megan Hurley advocates for brain injury awareness after an accident in 2008.

“Megan Hurley is a traumatic brain injury survivor who transformed her challenges with cognition, communication, and focus into a mission of hope and resilience. Through Toastmasters & the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation, Megan discovered her passion for inspiring others to overcome life’s greatest obstacles with strength and determination.”

In 2008, while Megan Hurley was working toward her masters degree she had a seizure at a library.

"I fell backwards, so I fractured my skull, bled into my brain, and that's what resulted in the traumatic brain injury," Hurley explained.

Megan emphasized the most common hurdle for many survivors is the emotional aspect of regaining purpose. "My biggest struggles have been the cognition and the focus, communication, getting my words out clearly," she shared.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the leading causes of traumatic brain injury (TBI) include falls, blunt trauma accidents, and vehicle-related injuries. The Brain Injury Association of America reports that more than 5.3 million people in the United States are living with a permanent brain injury-related disability, equivalent to one in every 60 individuals.

"I went from being a 29-year-old teacher to waking up suddenly with a disability and trying to figure out what kind of future if any I would have ahead of me which was scary," Hurley recounted.

Hurley has since dedicated herself to advocating for brain injury awareness, becoming a keynote speaker and workshop presenter. Her goal is to inspire and support other survivors. "I fought to make it through this, and I did. I want other survivors to know that they can share their story and that they are not alone," Hurley said.

To further support the cause, the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation will host a fundraiser walk Saturday to raise funds for recovery resources. Those interested in participating can find more information at sdbif.org

What do you ned to know about emerging thermal camera technology and SWaP-C for dual use applications?

How can SWAP-C Principles Enable Inexpensive High-Definition Thermal Imaging Cameras?

Compact thermal cameras are suitable for applications involving automated inspection, autonomous vehicles, drones, and monitoring of production equipment.

Two considerations drive the selection of cameras for volume applications—performance and the burden on resources including limits on accommodating size, weight, power, and cost. For visible-band cameras, both monochrome and RGB, the demands of their highest volume applications—machine vision, surveillance, mobile phones—have driven the performance up and the total resource burden down.

Until recently, no application has placed similar demands on thermal cameras operating in the long-wave infrared (LWIR) band, but now, with the mandate from the U.S.National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requiring all 2029 cars to include day/night automatic braking, the need for high performance, compact thermal cameras has become urgent.
Thermal imaging has been available for almost 100 years, beginning with a two-pixel camera in 1929, cooled line-scan sensors in the 1960s, cooled area arrays in the 1970s and uncooled microbolometer arrays in the 1980’s. Today, the highest-performance thermal cameras (and most expensive) are cooled but smaller and cheaper uncooled cameras make up the vast majority of units in service.

Even so, the cost of uncooled cameras is tightly tied to performance. The two most important factors are spatial resolution—the number of pixels in the array—and temperature resolution— the smallest difference in temperature in the scene that can be discerned. The variation in requirements for particular applications is substantial.

Most campaigns have strayed away from using artificial intelligence in campaign ads.

But one Democratic donor is embracing the technology in the high-stakes race for governor of North Carolina. Todd Stiefel, founder of Americans for Prosparody — an outside group that’s spoofing the GOP outfit Americans for Prosperity — said the group is spending around $1 million on an AI-generated ad that parodies Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the GOP’s embattled candidate for the open gubernatorial seat, by recreating his image and voice to highlight some of his controversial views.

Heading into the 2024 election cycle, many experts raised concerns that AI could be hugely disruptive by making fake campaign material more and more undetectable, hopelessly blurring the line between fact and disinformation. But Stiefel said he isn’t trying to trick anyone. The ad leans into the technology, both with clear disclosures and highlighting how AI can go awry. (“I have 10 fingers and 10 toes, just like you,” the AI-generated Robinson says, as he holds up 14 fingers — a reference to AI’s famous inability to generate realistic digits.)

Both Robinson’s and Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein’s campaigns have criticized Stiefel’s use of AI in campaigning. Stein’s campaign has also called attention to Robinson’s inflammatory comments without using AI. But as an outside group unaffiliated with any campaign, Stiefel’s organization is operating outside their control.

Digital Future Daily spoke with Stiefel about his efforts, which he said he hopes not only torpedoes Robinson’s candidacy, but also sets an example for how to use AI responsibly as one of the few upfront — and unconventional — examples of the technology in an advertisement this cycle. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
