Nobody gives their best answer the first time.

The first try runs long. The second finds the structure. The third sounds like you.

That is not talent. It is practice out loud, with feedback on what to fix before you try again.

Our interview simulator has 70+ real residency interview questions. Answer out loud, get feedback on your content, structure, pace and filler words, and go again until your answer lands.

Count the dots. There are ninety-six of them, and each one is 2,500 IMGs.

That is 240,000 people who sat where you are sitting right now, somewhere in the middle of an application cycle, not sure it was going to work out. Since 2004 we have only ever built for them. Not for US grads with IMGs as an afterthought. Only IMGs, for 22 years.

It is why our program data comes from calling programs directly and from applicants who went through the process, rather than from what a program website says.

If you are in the middle of it right now, you are not the first one through this. You are one of a very large group, and many of them made it.

โ€œTell me about yourselfโ€ is the first question in almost every interview, and it is the one most people answer worst.

Not because the answer is wrong. Because it starts in the wrong place.

Most versions begin at birth and walk forward: where I was born, when I started medical school, which rotation came next, when I took Step 1. Ninety seconds later the interviewer knows your CV in order and nothing about who is sitting in front of them. They already have your CV.

Three things go wrong. It starts in the past. It is a list, not a story. And it has no ending, so nobody knows where it was going.

The fix is an order, not a script.

Now: who you are today, in one line.
Then: one or two moments that brought you here.
Next: why this specialty, and what you want to do in it.

Same person, same facts, forty seconds instead of ninety. Swipe to slide five to hear it.

Comment PRACTICE and we will send you a question to try it on.

Still waiting on an interview invite? Your letter of interest should only fit one program. โœ‰๏ธ

If you could swap in another program's name and send it again, it's not doing its job. "I am still very interested in your program and believe I would be a great fit" is a line programs read over and over.

A strong letter of interest is specific, current and honest. Swipe for when to send yours, the four parts every letter needs, and the two mistakes to avoid.

Save this, and share it with a friend who is still waiting to hear back from programs.

Already have a draft? Get your letter of interest assessed and scored for free in the Residency Letters Suite. No card, no credit needed. Link in bio.

Your interview is in 7 days. Here's the plan. ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

Day 7: Reread your own application
Day 6: Research the program
Day 5: Build your story bank
Day 4: Prepare the IMG questions (gaps, visas, US clinical experience)
Day 3: Mock interview on camera
Day 2: Tech and setup check
Day 1: Write your questions, then rest

One focused task a day, so you walk in prepared instead of cramming the night before. Slide 5 is your interview morning checklist, so screenshot it.

Save this and share it with someone who just got an invite.

Nobody remembers a rehearsed answer.

Your scores, CV and personal statement already got you the interview. The interview is the one part of your application nobody can write for you ahead of time, so programs finally get to hear how you think and how you talk to people.

Swipe for 3 common questions rewritten so the answer could only come from you, plus the classmate test to run on every answer before interview day.

Memorize stories, not scripts. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Save this for your next interview, and send it to a friend with interviews coming up.

When you're ready to practice out loud, Interview Prep from Match a Resident starts at $99. Link in bio.

He is a first-generation physician, a husband, and a father of four. He cares deeply about mentorship and wants every trainee to know that what makes their story different is a strength.

Invitations are landing. One move is for the programs that said yes, and the other is for the ones that have said nothing at all.

For the yes: the invite means your file worked, and from here you are compared with people who all look qualified on paper. The decision gets made in the room. Block rehearsal time the day an invite arrives, before your calendar fills with more of them, and set up Thalamus early since that is where scheduling now happens.

Then say your answers out loud. You do not blank because you do not know the answer, you blank because you are composing it for the first time while somebody watches. By the tenth rep you can be interrupted and still find the thread.

For the silence: some programs you genuinely want will not respond for weeks, and most applicants wait it out because reaching out feels like begging. A letter of interest tells one program you are still interested and gives them something real that has happened since you applied. One page, one program, one send. It still counts if you already signaled them, because that signal went out before you had anything new to say.

Swipe through for the full breakdown, including six things that actually help before your first interview, open houses and second looks included.

Ready to practice? Interview Prep runs the questions programs actually ask, reads your answer and your delivery, and gives you the steps to fix it. Link in bio.
