Another reminder of why you still need a website in 2026. And will in 2027, 2028…
A few months ago, I wrote about Google quietly removing or hiding some reviews without any notice.
Now, according to Search Engine Roundtable, Google Maps requires users to sign in to see all of a business’s reviews. And you don’t get to choose which reviews your potential customers see before signing in.
When your online presence depends entirely on big corporations, their decisions can come back and bite you. At any time, and without notice.
Your website gives you a place to share your work, customer testimonials, and story on your own terms. Own your website. Keep control of how you present your brand. And decide what you want your potential customers to see.

People keep asking me whether AI search means nobody visits websites anymore.
Here's the actual data. Pew Research tracked 68,879 real Google searches in 2025. When Google showed an AI summary, people clicked through to a website 8% of the time. Without one, 15%. So yes, it's a real drop.
It lands hardest on question-style searches like "how do I fix a leaky faucet." Pew found AI summaries on 60% of those, and on only 8% of one- or two-word searches like "emergency plumber."
If you run a local service business, three things matter more than the headlines. Keep your Google Business Profile complete and current. Make sure your pages clearly say what you do and where. And answer the questions your customers actually ask, in plain words.

Quick test for San Diego business owners: open your website on your phone and count to three.

Google found that 53% of mobile visits are abandoned when a page takes longer than 3 seconds to load. That's someone who searched for what you do, found you, tapped your link, and gave up while the page was still loading.

You can check your site for free. Go to pagespeed.web.dev (it's Google's own tool), paste your website address, and look at the Mobile results. Four green circles means all four scores are 90 or above.

If you're seeing orange or red, I can help. Send me your site and I'll record you a short video on what I'd fix first: oui.digital/website-audit/

San Diego business owners: send me your website and I'll record you a video.
Each week I go through a small number of local sites myself and make a walkthrough for the owner. I look at what the automated checkers miss. Does a stranger get what you do in a few seconds? Can they find your number on a phone? How many steps does it take to book or ask for a quote?
You'll see where visitors are likely to drop off and what I'd fix first.
Name, email and your website address are all I need. No call.

If you've ever hired a contractor in North County, you know the moment. You find their website, you can't tell whether they do your kind of job, and the phone number is buried at the bottom.
Here's what a handyman site looks like when it's built for the person holding the phone.
Call and Text stay pinned to the bottom of the screen. The license number is right there, with a note telling you to check it on the CSLB site. The work is shown as a before and after you can drag. And the last step is texting a photo of the problem instead of filling out a form.
Homeowners, honest question: what actually makes you call one contractor over another? I'd bet it isn't the logo.

Quick test for anyone with a business website: try getting to your contact form using only the Tab key on your keyboard. No mouse.
Some people browse exactly like that because they can't use a mouse. If they can't reach your form, they can't contact you.
And they're just one group. More than 1 in 4 US adults has a disability, according to the CDC. Two other common snags: light gray text that's hard to read, and buttons with no label, so people using a screen reader just hear "button."
If your business is open to the public, the ADA covers what you offer online too. Here's the Justice Department's guidance: https://dub.sh/1dNxkZt
Did your site pass? If not, send me a message. I can help.

Quick hello for anyone new here. I'm Xavier, and I run Oui Digital in San Diego.
When you hire the studio, you get me. I'm on the first call, I design the pages and I write the code. No account manager, no handoff.
A new site is typically live in about two weeks, in English, French, or both.
If you want to see how I'd look at your current site, I'll record you a video: oui.digital/website-audit/

For many customers, your website is their first interaction with your business.

Here’s a look at a few websites I’ve created for businesses in different industries, including service businesses, professional firms, and specialized practices.

Each one is built to explain the business clearly and make it easy for visitors to take the next step.

If your website needs to work harder for your business, visit oui.digital or send me a message.

Here is a look at the new website I built for Oui Handyman.

Because the company handles several trades, the site needed to clearly explain its services without overwhelming homeowners. It also needed to show real work and make it easy to request a quote from a phone.

The finished site includes service details, project photos, before-and-after comparisons, and a clear contact path.

If your website feels dated or does not bring in enough inquiries, I can review it and send you a free personal video walkthrough:

I ran speed tests on six San Diego business websites this week.

Median load time: 6.4 seconds. Slowest: 11.4.

Google's target is 2.5.

Over one summer, San Diego takes north of 11 million visitors. Someone searching "best [your service] near me" from a hotel in Gaslamp or La Jolla gets three to five options.

Your Google listing decides whether you're in there.

Your website decides what happens after they tap.

Two different jobs. Most owners only ever work on the first one.

The traffic is already coming. The only question is how much of it you keep.

Free scorecard in my bio. Five areas, five minutes, tells you what to fix first.
