Facebook Wants Access to Your Private Photos?

Heads up: A new Meta feature is raising eyebrows โ€” and privacy concerns.

Have you seen this yet? Facebook is asking users for permission to automatically upload private, unpublished images for cloud processing.

Yikes! Why? Well, the 'machine' needs even MORE fodder to train the AI, right?! ๐Ÿคช Hmph! I'll take a hard pass.

Facebook is now prompting some mobile users to enable automatic photo syncing, allowing the app to continuously scan your camera roll to find screenshots of things like concert tickets, calendars, or receipts. WTH?!

The goal?

Meta claims it wants to โ€œhelp you stay organizedโ€ by suggesting reminders or helpful actions based on the images you capture. ๐Ÿ˜ณ (Yeah, right!)

But letโ€™s be real: this level of data access is far beyond most peopleโ€™s comfort zones โ€” especially when it comes to private, personal, or sensitive images stored on your phone.

So, why would Meta do this?

The short answer: data = dollars. By scanning your camera roll, Meta can potentially gather even more behavioral insights to fuel its ad machine and recommendation engine. But the tradeoff is a major invasion of personal privacy.

PLUS, no doubt Facebook plans to use your private images to train its AI - even though Meta claims, "photos are not currently being used to train AI models."

HERE'S WHAT TO DO:

If you see this prompt in your Facebook app, you can (and should) decline. Look for options like โ€œNot Nowโ€ or โ€œDonโ€™t Allowโ€ when asked to enable photo syncing.

You can also double-check by going to:

Facebook App > Settings & Privacy > Settings > under Preferences: Camera roll sharing suggestions > make sure both toggles are set to OFF

Many people underestimate the power of good prompts.

Here are 5 frameworks to write effective ChatGPT prompts:

1. Rโ€“Tโ€“F
- Act as a (ROLE)
- Create a (TASK)
- Show as (FORMAT)

Example:
- ROLE: Facebook Ad Marketer
- TASK: Design a compelling Facebook ad campaign to promote a new line of fitness apparel for a sports brand
- FORMAT: Create a storyboard that outlines the sequence of ad creatives including ad copy, visuals, and a targeting strategy.

2. Tโ€“Aโ€“G
- Define a (TASK)
- State the (ACTION)
- Clarify the (GOAL)

Example:
- TASK: Evaluate the performance of team members
- ACTION: Act as a direct manager and assess the strengths and weaknesses of the team members
- GOAL: Improve team performance so that the average user satisfaction score moves from 6 to 7.5 in the next quarter

3. Bโ€“Aโ€“B
- Explain problem (BEFORE)
- State outcome (AFTER)
- Ask to the (BRIDGE)

Example:
- BEFORE: Weโ€™re nowhere to be seen in SEO rankings
- AFTER: We want to be in the top 10 SEO rankings in our niche within 90 days
- BRIDGE: Develop a detailed plan for mentioning all the measures. We should also include a list of the top 20 keywords.

- Give the (CONTEXT)

- Clarify the (RESULT)
- Give the (EXAMPLE)

Example:
- CONTEXT: We are launching a new line of sustainable clothing
- ACTION: Can you assist us in creating a targeted advertising campaign that emphasizes environmental commitment?
- RESULT: Our desired outcome is to drive product awareness and sales
- EXAMPLE: A good example of a similar successful initiative is Patagoniaโ€™s "Donโ€™t Buy This Jacket" campaign, which highlighted their commitment to sustainability while enhancing their brand image.

Invite the people who like your postsโ€”whether itโ€™s from a boosted post, regular post, or paid ad. These are people already engaging with your content, so why not turn them into followers? Go to each post and look as liked the post and there will be an invite button!!

Itโ€™s an easy, free way to build your audience and increase visibility. Donโ€™t let those likes go to wasteโ€”convert them into page fans!

Do you stream live on Facebook? Starting TODAY, if you want to keep your videos, you'll have to download them or they'll automatically be DELETED by Facebook.

๐Ÿ”น Beginning February 19th, new live broadcasts can be replayed, downloaded or shared from pages or profiles for 30 days, after which they will be automatically REMOVED from Facebook!!
๐Ÿ”น Live videos currently older than 30 days will be removed from Facebook. But, before your archival live videos are deleted, you will receive a NOTIFICATION via email and on Facebook. Then you have 90 DAYS from the date of the notification to download or transfer your content.
๐Ÿ”น The deletion process will take place in waves over the coming months.
๐Ÿ”น This is for videos live streamed to your Facebook PAGE or personal PROFILE. (Groups were not mentioned in the announcement).

YOUR OPTIONS INCLUDE:
โœ… Download your single live videos once your stream ends. Or anytime up to 30 days.
โœ… Download your past live videos in bulk using Facebook's native tool they will provide. (You may instead want to use the Download Your Information feature on your profile and/or business Page).
โœ… Directly transfer your live videos to cloud storage. (Options are Dropbox or Google Drive).
โœ… Request an extension of six months to download/transfer your past live videos.
โœ… Before downloading, transferring, or Facebook deleting them, be sure to create short clips from your live videos and share them as REELS. [This part is the continued TikTokification of Facebook, putting more and more emphasis on short-form video, ideally vertical, to feed the continuous scroll machine of addicting content!]
โœ… And, you could download live videos and re-upload them as regular videos anywhere on Facebook. (Page, profile, group).
This is due to new storage policies, Facebook states. Most live video views occur within the first few weeks of broadcasting. Therefore it doesn't make sense to store them forever. Hm.
Storing long videos costs money. And with Meta set to spend ~$65 billion on AI development this year, the company needs to 'trim the budget' where it can.

NOTE: This new storage policy applies to ANY live stream on Facebook, whether native or via third-party tools. If I discover otherwise, I'll be sure to update you!! But from what Meta is announcing, it's ALL live videos. In this case, you might want to use a multi-streaming tool such as Ecamm Live for Macs, Streamyard, BeLive, Restream, Switcher, etc., and also stream to YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.
