The new Las Vegas Athletics ballpark is bringing some serious engineering to the desert.
Five massive, overlapping arches inspired by baseball pennants give the stadium its signature look, with a steel truss spanning approximately 700 feet.
But the design isn’t just for show. The roof helps shield fans from the intense Nevada sun while allowing natural daylight into the stadium and reducing glare.
Pretty impressive for a ballpark that hasn’t hosted its first pitch yet.

PARTS OF THE WEST COAST COULD SEE AN EXTRA FOOT OF OCEAN. 🌊

A Kelvin wave can temporarily raise coastal sea levels by 6–12 inches. Combine that with high tides and storm-driven surf, and those extra inches can increase flooding and erosion risk.
Here’s what’s happening beneath the surface:
Kelvin waves carry changes in ocean temperature and sea level east across the equatorial Pacific. When they reach the Americas, some of that energy travels north along the coastline, including Mexico and the U.S. West Coast.
They move at roughly 6 mph, or 150 miles a day. This is a broad ocean pulse, not a towering wave crashing toward shore.
NOAA says a Kelvin wave alone generally isn’t a threat to coastal communities. The concern is what stacks on top of it: very high tides, storm surge, and ocean levels already elevated by unusually warm water.
These waves can also push colder water deeper, keeping near-surface waters warmer and reducing the upwelling of nutrient-rich water.

Mexico’s Pacific coast would like to unsubscribe. 🌀
Trudy is forecast to rapidly strengthen into a major hurricane by Friday and could approach southwestern Mexico Saturday, while Simon lingers offshore.
That’s a forecast worth watching.

The storm passed. The damage is spread across the map.
Isaias left roof damage, downed trees and flooding across Florida’s Panhandle and Alabama, with inland flooding reported in North Carolina. On the other coast, Rachel’s waves damaged oceanfront buildings and eroded foundations in Long Beach, while coastal flooding hit Newport Beach.
