Fun HoneyBee fact:
Beekeepers use smokers in their apiaries to settle the honey bees. The reason this works is because honey bees send out a pheromone called isopentyl acetate from a gland near their stingers when they sense danger to alert other bees. So when a beekeeper needs to inspect the hive, the smoke masks the alerting pheromones, and allows the beekeeper time to work with the bees without the danger.
Does it always work? No, but it’s said, You’re not a real beekeeper if you have never been stung.
Have you ever been stung by a bee? How were you told to ease the pain?
