Here's the kind of wire fraud that filters can't catch. A bookkeeper gets an email from a client's controller the afternoon before a settlement goes out. New bank, new account number. The thread is real. So is the address, because the attacker is writing from inside the controller's actual mailbox.

Every check comes back clean. No filter flags a message for being authentic.

That's why our guide for Dallas law firms splits the work 3 ways. Your IT provider handles phishing-resistant sign-in, impersonation protection, and alerts on new inbox rules. Your firm owns the callback rule, using a number already on file. Your bank handles dual approval and a hold on new payees.

Texas lost $304,318,015 to business email compromise in 2025, per the FBI.

Is remote IT support as good as having someone onsite? For software, accounts and settings, yes, and it's often faster because nobody has to drive. For anything physical, no.

A remote technician can't swap a switch, pull a cable or power up a server that's off. Our new guide sorts common office problems into remote, onsite or both, and boils it down to 3 triggers for a visit: dead, new, moving.

It also covers the question that trips up more buyers than you'd think. A fast first reply is a different clock from a fast arrival, which is how a 5 minute answer ends up sitting next to a 3 hour wait. And if you're getting 2 invoices from 2 vendors, you're buying 2 products, not hybrid support.

If your business found a breach tonight, who makes the first call? If nobody knows, the first hour is gone.

A Texas breach plan is 3 jobs on a clock. Contain the damage in 4 hours. Get counsel and the facts by hour 24. Know whose data was touched by hour 72. Then the legal clocks run: 30 days to notify the Attorney General if at least 250 Texans are affected, and 60 days to notify individuals, both counted from the day you determine a breach occurred.

One early move can erase evidence: shutting machines down. Take affected computers off the network, but leave them powered on until forensic experts can image them.

Our new guide has the hour-by-hour plan and a table of who decides what.

Are your job drawings Federal contract information? On a base project, almost always.

FAR 52.204-21 doesn't grade sensitivity. It asks one thing. Was the information meant for the public? A door hardware schedule for a building on Lackland almost never was. Same for RFIs, submittals, revised sheets, and a 3-week lookahead.

That means the email, Procore account, and field tablets holding those files fall under 15 basic safeguards. Shared superintendent logins on the trailer PC fail. So does one Wi-Fi network for crews, inspectors, and the project engineer's laptop.

Our guide for San Antonio subcontractors maps all 15 safeguards to what actually happens on a jobsite. It also covers the SPRS affirmation your prime will ask for before award, and who at your company should sign it.

Opening or buying a third dental office? That's usually where the IT breaks.

A 2-office group can limp along as a practice with a branch. A 3-office group can't. Patients book wherever there's an opening, hygienists float, and each front desk builds its own workarounds. A year later you've got 3 firewall brands, 3 backup schedules, 3 ways of resetting a password, and no single place to see whether any of it is working. Nobody did anything wrong. There just wasn't a design.

Our new guide for Texas dental groups covers where the patient database should live, imaging, phones, HIPAA paperwork across separate PLLCs, and a day 1 to day 90 IT plan for buying a practice.

What does GLBA compliance actually add to a Texas financial firm's IT bill? In our published Houston band, it moves a managed IT seat from $138 to $175 to $250 per user a month, before a yearly pen test, licenses and exam fees.

Don't expect the agencies to tell you. The FTC's only official number is about $370 to file a breach report. It never priced the program itself.

The bigger choice is who owns the program. A single in-house security analyst costs $192,000 to $204,000 a year, loaded, in Texas metros. For a 30-person Houston mortgage lender, compliance-scoped managed IT plus a yearly pen test runs about $67,800 to $94,800 a year, before licenses and exam fees.

We priced every line, regulator by regulator:

Quick question for Texas owners. Who reads your security alerts at 11 p.m. on a Friday?

On a lot of business-hours plans, the answer is nobody until morning. Overnight alerts go to an inbox or an on-call phone, so an intrusion that starts Friday night can run all weekend. Those plans start nearer $25 per user a month, and for a 9-person office with no customer Social Security numbers, that can be fine.

Most companies past 20 people need a person watching. In our Texas pricing guide, that 24/7 tier runs $40 to $90 per user a month on its own. For a 50-person company, call it $2,000 to $4,500.

The spread matters. A $90 quote may include log retention, threat hunting, and response hours that a $40 quote leaves out. Ask for the inclusion list before you compare.

CTO or vCIO? Ask a single question: who's affected when it breaks?

Write down the last 5 technology problems that reached your desk and sort them into 2 columns. Customer-facing failures go left: customers couldn't use what they bought, a release slipped, or the platform fell over. That's CTO territory. Staff-facing failures go right: your people couldn't work, a renewal lapsed, a device died, or an auditor asked for evidence nobody had. That's a vCIO question.

Whichever column is longer tells you which role you're missing. It takes 10 minutes, and it settles a question the titles themselves can't.

Our side-by-side guide covers what each role owns and what each costs in Texas:

Can a Texas lawyer put client information into ChatGPT? Only with care, and sometimes only with consent. State Bar Opinion 705 says a lawyer who isn't reasonably satisfied that an AI tool will protect confidential information shouldn't enter it without client consultation and consent. It also says not to bill clients for time the tool saved.

That's 1 of 5 State Bar ethics opinions that set the practical security expectations for Texas firms. The others cover vendors, email, metadata and cloud storage. Meanwhile, Texas requires 15 hours of CLE a year and none of them in technology or cybersecurity.

Our new guide maps each opinion to the IT control that meets it, plus the Texas deadlines that start after a breach.

Can a San Antonio engineering firm move its CAD files to SharePoint and retire the server? Partly.

SharePoint is a strong home for contracts, RFIs, transmittals, signed PDFs, and closed project archives. Live Revit, Civil 3D, and MicroStation sets are a different job. In a synced OneDrive or SharePoint folder, each engineer opens a local copy, so the lock that stops 2 people saving over each other doesn't arrive in time.

Our new guide maps each engineering workload to the right home, from the office file server to Autodesk Docs and ProjectWise. It also covers what 1 TB plus 10 GB per license of SharePoint storage actually holds, and why Autodesk warns against file-based Revit worksharing over a VPN.

Does your IT provider actually know The Woodlands, or are you just an outlying ZIP code to them?

Businesses up here often get stuck choosing between downtown Houston firms that treat them as an afterthought and small shops that vanish when you really need help. Neither one is a great spot to run your operation from.

There's a better option. Uprite supports businesses in The Woodlands with the responsiveness of a local team and the depth of a full managed IT operation. That means proactive monitoring, maintenance that keeps systems healthy, and predictable monthly pricing so surprises stay off your budget.

You shouldn't have to trade local attention for real capability. Around here, you can have both.

What happens to your IT when you open a second or third location across Texas?

For a lot of businesses, that's where things get messy. One office uses one provider, the next uses someone else, and suddenly nothing's consistent. When a problem crosses locations, everyone points fingers and nobody owns the fix.

Statewide managed IT solves that. Uprite covers businesses across Houston, San Antonio, and beyond, so every location runs on the same standard with one team accountable for all of it. As you grow, your IT grows with you, instead of forcing a new vendor search every time you expand.

If you're running multiple sites in Texas, consistency is what keeps the whole operation steady.

What's the real cost of IT support that's slow to respond in San Antonio?

It's not just the downtime. It's the team standing around, the orders that don't go out, the customers waiting. And it adds up fast when your provider is a distant call center that treats your emergency like a routine ticket.

Local managed IT works differently. Uprite gives San Antonio businesses support from a team that can respond quickly and be on-site when needed, plus proactive maintenance that keeps small issues from becoming big ones. Pricing stays predictable, so IT isn't the surprise on your quarterly budget.

The goal is simple: catch problems early, fix them fast, and keep your business moving.

How long would your Houston business be stuck if your IT provider could only help from a screen?

Most everyday tech issues get solved remotely, and that's great. But every so often something needs a person standing in front of the hardware. If your provider is remote-only or based far away, that's when a small issue turns into a lost day.

Local managed IT solves that. Uprite has a Houston team that handles fast remote support for the routine stuff and can be on-site when a problem calls for it. You get the speed of remote and the backup of local, all on fixed monthly pricing so your budget stays predictable.

If you run a business in the Houston metro, having IT that's actually nearby changes how fast you bounce back.

When was the last time your IT setup actually got ahead of a problem instead of reacting to one?

For a lot of growing businesses, IT only shows up when something's already down. That's stressful, and it's expensive. Every emergency pulls people off their work and turns into a guessing game on cost.

Managed IT is a different deal. You get proactive monitoring that catches issues early, a help desk your team can actually reach, security built in, and IT planning that looks ahead. All for a predictable monthly cost, so there are no surprise invoices after a bad week.

Uprite handles this for Texas SMBs every day. If you're tired of IT being a fire drill, this is the fix.
