Two weeks out from Shoptoberfest North America, and we're getting awfully excited...

Shopware's been a good partner to DDS—the kind of relationship that exists because our customers asked for it. Distributors and manufacturers building their e-commerce presence on Shopware shouldn't have to fight their product content to get there, and that overlap is a big part of why attending and supporting this event appealed to us.

Mostly, though, we're looking forward to a room full of people who actually build this stuff for a living, comparing notes over good food and better company. 🍻

See you in Nashville.

Construction product data is one of the most uneven categories in distribution.

Some product lines come with rich specs, full images, and complete documentation. Others arrive with a part number and a one-line description—if that. Tools, rough hardware, building materials, fasteners—each category has its own format, its own attribute set, and its own level of source quality from the manufacturer.

That inconsistency is what breaks faceted search, stalls new SKU launches, and keeps your team in a permanent data cleanup loop.

We just refined our Construction industry page with a closer look at how DDS tackles the problem—automatically:

→ 320,000+ construction SKUs from 160+ brands, normalized and delivered into your ERP, PIM, or e-commerce platform
→ AI-powered enrichment that fills gaps where manufacturer content is thin
→ 60–80% reduction in manual data management time
→ New SKUs publishing up to 4× faster—without adding headcount

If your catalog is complete in some categories and bare in others, this one's worth a look.

Nashville, we're on our way.

This September, DDS is attending North America for the first time—Shopware's ecommerce gathering happening September 15 at the Bavarian Bierhaus in Nashville.

We've heard it's as fun as it is productive (which tracks with their other events 😎): with real merchants—including teams from UPPAbaby, Tilly's, Imagine Home Digital, and Abilene Machine—trading stories over German food and live music, without the usual conference formality. We’ll toast (er, Prost!) to that! 🍻

If you're already registered, we'll see you there. If you're still on the fence, it's shaping up to be a good one.

Not every podcast we show up on is about product data—and that's exactly why this one meant so much.

Our president and co-founder, Matt Christensen, recently joined Amy Dardis on her podcast, Building a Clear Authentic Brand, to talk about something we don't often get asked about publicly: how we've built our team and our culture at DDS.

Amy is a former customer who worked closely with our team before launching Clear Authentic Brands, helping companies build authentically from the inside out—so it meant a lot that she wanted Matt's perspective on this one.

Matt gets into the real story behind our "personality-first" hiring approach—including why we involve our existing team, rather than HR, in every hire, so the people already here feel invested in finding the right fit for what comes next. It's part of a bigger belief we hold at DDS: doing things the right way isn't just about the product—it's about the people building it.

He also touches on how we're putting AI to work at DDS—both behind the scenes in how we run our business, and in more forward-looking ways built directly into our solutions.

Plus, some genuinely great interview questions and stories along the way. Worth the listen.

If you're evaluating product data solutions for your distribution e-commerce stack, the platform model matters as much as the content itself.

Some solutions bundle content and e-commerce together—which works until you want to switch platforms, scale your catalog, or simply own your data outright.

DDS takes a different approach: manufacturer-approved product content delivered directly into whatever system you're already running—your ERP, PIM, website, or marketplace—with no manual uploads, no per-SKU fees, and no vendor lock-in.

We recently published a direct comparison for distributors weighing their options:

→ Platform flexibility vs. all-in-one lock-in
→ Manufacturer-direct data (99% verified) vs. web-scraped content
→ Flat subscription pricing vs. per-SKU refresh fees

If your catalog is growing and your current solution is making you pay more to keep up with it, the comparison is worth a look:

Scaling e-commerce shouldn’t require scaling headcount.

As distributors expand their catalogs, the real bottleneck often isn’t demand—it’s product data creation. Manually building listings SKU by SKU simply doesn’t scale.

That’s where AI changes the equation.

This clear + thorough post explains (exactly) how DDS' Acadia AI Product Creation helps distributors rapidly generate enriched, structured product listings—accelerating time to market and improving digital performance without overwhelming internal teams.

If growth is on your roadmap, this is worth a read.

Two distributors carry the same breaker from the same manufacturer. One wins the sale online. The other never even shows up in the buyer's search.

Same product. Same supplier. Different outcome.

The difference isn't the product—it's the data behind it. And not all product data is equal.

A SKU can technically "exist" in your catalog and still fail every job that matters: showing up in search, answering a filter, winning the comparison against the distributor down the street.

Six things separate a catalog that sells from one that stalls:
→ Categorization—can buyers find it?
→ Attribute normalization—"120V" and "120 Volt" should be one value, not two
→ Enrichment—filling the gaps manufacturers leave behind
→ Completeness—decision-ready, not just present
→ Integrations—good data has to land where you actually sell
→ Scale—it has to work across hundreds of brands, not fifty SKUs

Most distributors measure data quality by whether a product is "in the system." Buyers measure it by whether they can actually buy.

Which one are you optimizing for?

"120V." "120 Volt." "120."

To a human, obviously the same thing. To your e-commerce filter, three separate values—which means a buyer searching for one never sees the products listed as the others.

That's why not all product data is equal. Quality isn't one thing, it's six working together:

Categorization · Normalization · Enrichment · Completeness · Integrations · Scale

Nail all six and your catalog sells. Skip one and it quietly stalls.

ICYMI — our own Matt Christensen was recently featured on Industrial Supply Trends, published by David Gordon and the team at Channel Marketing Group.

If you manage product data at a mid-market industrial manufacturer, the core challenge is probably familiar: the backlog never shrinks because new SKUs keep arriving faster than the cleanup team can clear them. The "we'll get to it" approach has a quiet but real cost.

Matt breaks down a better sequence:
→ Why incremental cleanup always loses the race against incremental growth
→ How to clear years of backlog in weeks—without replacing your existing systems
→ Why standing up governance before clearing the mess is the mistake that stalls most projects

Worth a read if catalog cleanup has been a permanent line item that never closes.

"Our products are all in the system."

That's the line we hear most from distributors—and it's also the most expensive assumption in the catalog.

Having data and having *good* data are two different things. A product record can be technically present and still be invisible: miscategorized, missing the attributes buyers filter on, lacking the description that closes the decision.

Not all product data is equal. Six dimensions decide which side of the line you're on—categorization, attribute normalization, enrichment, completeness, integrations, and scale—and a catalog that skips any one of them stalls, usually without anyone noticing why.

The distributors winning online didn't clean up their data once. They built a way to keep it clean, complete, and current at the scale their business actually runs.

We wrote up what each of those six dimensions actually means—and why "it's in the system" is the wrong metric. Check it out: https://na2.hubs.ly/H06rpP00
