One common mistake people make in Sauce Labs is forgetting to quit the session. Sauce Labs won’t know when your test should end unless you tell it. If you don’t call driver.quit() after your assertion, the test will keep running until it hits a 90-second timeout, which can lead to frustrating exceptions. 😅

To Avoid Long Running Tests:
💡 Quit your driver as soon as your test is done.
💡 Always make sure to end the test after your assertions.
💡 Avoid unnecessary timeouts that waste time and resources.

We’ve just run a Chrome test on Sauce Labs, and it passed! 🏆
This test was simple, with only 4 commands, but Sauce Labs provides so much more than just pass/fail results. You can view videos, logs, network info, screenshots, and even metadata about your test. 🚀

Tips for Analyzing Your Sauce Labs Test:
▶️ Always review the video playback to confirm the test ran as expected.
▶️ Check the logs and network information for deeper insights.
▶️ Use the metadata to understand configurations and troubleshoot issues.

Let’s walk through generating a basic Chrome test using JUnitJupiter and Selenium 4. By using a platform configurator, you can choose your setup—like Windows 11 running the latest version of Chrome. Then, we’re writing our test in Java (but other languages are supported too). You can use a more dynamic, valuable test setup by copying and pasting directly from the configurator or my example. 🚀

3 Tips for Setting Up Your Chrome Test:
1️⃣ Use the latest version of Chrome for compatibility.
2️⃣ Choose dynamic test setups for flexibility across configurations.
3️⃣ Leverage the platform configurator to streamline your test environment.

Let’s dive into setting up a Maven project in IntelliJ. First, create your project, add your dependencies, and configure Maven Surefire for parallel test ex*****on.
We’ll be using Selenium and JUnit 5 (JUnit Jupiter) for testing, and with a few adjustments, we can enable parallelization through the Maven Surefire plugin, speeding up our test runs. 🚀

Tips for Setting Up Parallel Testing in Maven:
💡 Add dependencies for Maven Surefire, Selenium, and JUnit 5.
💡 Configure the Maven Surefire plugin to allow parallel testing.
💡 Always check your configuration for the correct JDK version—we’re using Java 11.

I’ve made the mistake of trying to automate everything, and it’s a massive waste of resources. Not every test provides value when automated. Some are better off done manually or only once.
I once had a customer wanting to run a 4-hour test for streaming services—imagine the time and complexity of that! Sometimes, the ROI just isn’t worth it.

For Smarter Automation:
💡 Only automate tests that provide long-term value.
💡 Evaluate ROI—some tests aren’t worth the time or resources.
💡 Keep automation focused and efficient—don’t overcomplicate it.

Have you ever tried to automate too much? Let’s discuss this in the comments!

One of the biggest mistakes I made early in my career was being afraid to ask for help. I didn’t want to seem ignorant. But now, with more experience, I ask for help more than ever. If I don’t understand something, I reach out—it’s the fastest way to learn and grow.

Tips for Asking for Help in Your Career:
💡 Don’t fear looking ignorant—everyone has been there.
💡 Ask early—waiting too long can slow you down.
💡 Use it as a learning tool—collaboration leads to growth.

Have you ever hesitated to ask for help? Let’s talk about it in the comments! ✨

Want faster test ex*****on? The key is to break up long, slow tests into small atomic tests that can run in parallel. For example, running 100 small tests that take 20 seconds each will still be faster than waiting for a single 5-minute test to finish. ⏱️

3 Tips for Faster Automation Testing:
1️⃣ Break up long tests into smaller, atomic ones.
2️⃣ Run tests in parallel to reduce overall ex*****on time.
3️⃣ Avoid letting a single long test hold up the entire suite.

One of the worst mistakes I’ve made countless times in my career is coding for requirements that don’t exist yet. You think you’re preparing for future scenarios, but when they never happen, all that time and effort is wasted. 😬

3 Tips to Avoid Over-Engineering in Automation:
💡 Code only for current requirements—don’t try to predict the future.
💡 Iterate quickly and get feedback early.
💡 Keep things simple and focus on what’s needed now.

Trust me, this will save your team a lot of time and money.

The best way to know if your automation is valuable is by how often it’s running and how reliable it is. If your automated tests run on every commit, and when they fail, teams act fast—then you know it’s working. 🚀

Tips for Better Automation:
💡 Ensure tests are running on every commit.
💡 When tests fail, teams should take immediate action.
💡 Focus on reducing maintenance and catching real bugs.

How reliable is your automation? Let’s discuss in the comments! ✨
