This late 90's NEC beauty came in this week after being dormant for 15 years. The owner was hoping to recover some files from the drive, but the computer hadn't been booted in so long, we didn't know if the old IDE/ATA drive would respond to being woken up, or if it would even be readable at all. Luckily after spending a few weeks procuring the right adapters and controller for the old Fujitsu drive, we were able to pull the drive and transfer all his files to a modern USB stick. In this case, we returned to the owner a huge amount of his poetry from that era of his life that would otherwise have been lost. Are you an artist that has media of any description stuck on an old machine that you want back in your life? Let me know, and we'll make that happen.

Merry Christmas my friends! Got another one off the bench today. A customer brought me their custom build desktop that wasn't powering on- after some testing we determined that the power supply had gone bad and needed replacement. She's elected to do that job herself, so I removed the old PSU at her request and did some light housekeeping while I was in there. Once she installs the new power supply, this thing should be back in business.

Just finished a refurb on this beast of a Dell Latitude 5590. The Intel i7 processor and 16gb of RAM means it can do some pretty heavy lifting for a device this small. It needed two new fans, a battery, a power control module, and some cleaning- now it's ready to head to it's new home later this week.

Despite looking as if it was recovered from the Edmund Fitzgerald, it's not all bad- this system had served a local body shop well for several years as the controller for their paint mixing system. Once it gets cleaned and refurbished, it will serve as one of their front office computers, creating estimates for customers.
